Gear oil change

I have Toyota avensis 2017 , manual gear  . When i have to change the gear oil ? Is necessary to change it?

I asked the local  Toyota dealer about it  , i have been told that i no need to change it?

Mileage  = 86000 ( never be changed)

I asked Toyota dealer that too about year ago and they told too "there is no need to change gearbox oil". Then they said almost immediately that "But You can change if You want". I got new oil from dealer and changed it. Old oil was VERY black and there was much less oil than suppose to be (no leaks and never changed so wrong amount from factory?).

Mine mileage was 110000kilometers/68000miles

I have had the opposite experience. I had the gearbox oil changed 2 years ago (at about 85k) and since then every time the car goes in for a service the Toyota dealer asks me if I want it changed! In fairness I don't think they are necessarily 'trying it on', they just don't bother to look at the service history to see that it's already been done quite recently.

I have the old Auto Merc`s BOX CHANGED EVERY 40,000 miles and its now on  251,000 without problems.

Just driven back from Spain without a hiccup.

I'm not against changing gearbox oil frequently by any means, particularly as I tend to keep my cars a long time and look after them. However our Avensis covers about 3k per year now so changing the gearbox oil even every 2 years would be massive overkill!
