Hello everyone, I drove my Compact on a rainy day and hit 2 water puddles that i couldnt see and right after that the engine started to have problems and it refuses to go over 5k sometimes it does go over but its (coughing and harking) I have never heard anything like it or anything and I hope any of you have any ideas of what causes it

Get it checked by a mechanic, esp if these were big splashes, enough to go over the bonnet and through the radiator! It could be water was sucked into the intake and caused some damage!

Hopefully not tho'...

it was big splashes but the air intake is placed like the water cant get in it, and the point why i am asking on a forum is  to avoid a mechanic since i dont really have money for it

If it's really important to save money then the first rule is do not drive the car until it's diagnosed and fixed. Even if it's just an electrical misfire, driving around with unburnt fuel entering the catalytic converter can destroy it and result in a much bigger repair bill than a diagnostic fee.

For a couple of simple checks you can do yourself, have a look for water pooled around electrical components and remove the air filter to check if it's wet. Don't run the engine at all if you find evidence of water in the air intake.

Well you can look in the engine bay, see what things look like in there. Does it look normal or is there debris and sand/dirt/etc. where it normally isn't? Pop the air box and see if the air filter looks like it's been contaminated by water ingress (Can be hard to tell if it is already super dirty due to not being changed in a while). See if there is water in the sparkplug wells or anything like that.

i didnt run the engine for like 3 or 4 weeks because i waited for it to dry out and then fire the engine and i check the airfilter same day and  it was dry before i started the engine i changed the sparked plugs, but i have two cable running one in front of the cat and one behind and both of them have exposed wires can that effect the way the engine behave?

When you say exposed wires, do you mean you can see actual copper wire, or just the insulation flex has pulled out the sheath a bit so you can see the individual insulated cables? The former is definitely not right, the latter is common.

i can see the insulated cables it hasnt rotten away that much

These are the lambda sensors and they are designed like that no problem wire been exposed and if it’s cut disconnected it will trigger a fault code and engine management light to illuminate. Best to run a diagnostic to see if any codes are stored into the ecu and take it from there. It might need some sensors and throttle body cleaning and spark plugs check, replace , fuel filter or anything else along the fuel and air lines. We can’t really say for sure what can be without seen the car.
Good luck 👍

Well if check engine comes up and then goes away there are faults detected and you will need to run proper diagnostic. Sometimes cheap obd 2 adapters and apps on a smartphone can’t read all the data from the ecu and might be a good idea to do diagnostic in garage or buy yourself a better scan tool, I personally use Carista adapter and this reads 21 ecu’s from the car Auris 2010., there is a subscription fee of £50 per year but if you buy new adapter they give one month free pro version. Other option if you have a windows laptop to purchase a copy of tech stream cable obd 2 and buy Toyota own software to do diagnostic but I have not done that myself and have no idea how to, other members are better informed about that matter. Going through deep water can be only a coincidence and not directly affecting  your engine performance., could be something else from the years mileage use. , dirty injectors, exhaust etc. May try with fuel additives but you need to know the faults first. 👍
