Hey guys,

Well I got my 07 2.2 d4d back in may and I just went to use the heater blowers on warm for the first time and it just blows mostly cold even on max heat.

The coolant level is ok and hasn't moved. Does that point towards the heater core? Is there any way to test for sure and are they difficult to change on these cars?

I did just qualify as a level 3 mechanic so I am capable but I have never done one of these.

Or could it be something else maybe? any advice would be really great, thanks in advance.

Anyone? There is actually a bit of warm air coming through but it's no where near as warm as it should be. When I turn the blowers off I can feel the warm air coming through the vents a little bit.

I leave early for work so I could really do with it working if possible. What would cause it to only get a little bit warm? Thermostat stuck open?

Have you checked the top hose from the radiator when the engine has been running a while if it stays slightly warm then probably is thermostat stuck open should be cold until thermostat opens.

can you feel the hoses that enter the baulkhead that go to the heater matrix to see if they are hot.

could be a blocked heater matrix or maybe a air lock what’s the heat like coming out the side vents and the footwell as I have read that some cars always blow cool air from the centre vents even with the heater controls on hot.

Thanks mate for the info. I haven't yet, but this was my next step and I am gonna do this in the morning. I was gonna buy a thermostat next week as it's only cheap. Can I change it without draining the whole coolant?

Also the engine seems a bit more noisier for longer. I mean like the noise it makes when it's cold until the engine warms up. It seems to do this for longer which made me think thermostat along with poor heat into the cabin when cold outside.

I am not familiar with the verso Depends where the thermostat is located if it’s near the top of engine you’ll probably only lose a third of the coolant if it’s lower down you’ll probably lose the majority have you got a drain tap on the rad you could drain it down from there and catch the coolant in a suitable container and reuse it you shouldn’t let it go down the drain anyway.

Ok got an update. I just ran and idled the car for 15 mins and it only got up to about 40oC. The top hose was gradually getting warm and the heater matrix pipes were about the same temperature. So is that a slam dunk thermostat stuck open? After a 15 minute drive it got up to 85oC but not much higher. Can anyone confirm this seems like thermostat problem please?

Just received an email from my Toyota dealer about the usual winter checks and service blurb. But also they are advertising these Optiwhite headlight bulbs which are claimed to give a white light thats 60% brighter than standart bulbs. Has anybody had these fitted and are they as good as they are claimed to be? They are priced around   £60 a pair for an Auris on ebay. Not enquired at Toyota yet to see what they would charge.

1.8 Touring sport is simple to add a Spare wheel the Hatchback is another storey, Toyota initially made a kit available but it has been withdrawn as it was not fitting correctly, further investigation found way more parts than initially thought would be required, Total parts count is 27 items and the retail price is over £2k and some parts are not easily available, so considering the price and parts availability Toyota are investigating alternative options.

If the cooling system temp is up to 85 deg I would say the thermostat is ok as that’s the temp that they start to open and are fully open by 88 deg was the top hose hot after you took it for a drive.

I would change the thermostat anyway for what it costs I also know that some diesel cars take ages for the heater to blow hot air I had a golf 1.9 tdi and that only blew Luke warm air after approx 3 miles I put bacofoil on the bottom part of the rad during the winter that helped other than that you will have to look else where such as a system flush or check for an air lock

good luck 👍
