Had my pants pulled down by the dealer....

Had to book the car into the dealer, as the dash cam was playing up lately, so i thought to myself , why not ordering the hood deflector and have it fitted in the same time...

Big mistake!

£68 for the hood deflector and £150 for fitting it !!!! 4 clips and  2 screws in existing holes...

Absolutely rip off!

Wow, that does feel like a rip off. Does the deflector look OK?

Did you not check out the fitting cost before booking the work?

Silly me , I did not… I never imagined it would be that much…

I really feel like I was taken for a ride, but what can I do now?

I can sympathise its easy to get gulled, low cost item, simple fix how expensive can it be. I'd go so far as to say I might not in this case have really given it much thought just asked the garage to do it as it was already in the a repair or something they'd already fitted. Maybe just the dealers way of recouping their costs?

I just emailed the dealer requesting a full break down of the labour costs, before I will name and shame and leaving a negative Google review.

If the fitting is that straight forward why not ask Toyota if they consider the labour cost to be correct, I’m sure they would not be happy if they consider the dealer is ripping you off.

Conversely I had a rear camera fitted and the dealer came straight out with the cost.  I might have asked, I can't remember, but it was £70.

The car was actually in the workshop for two visits and the job done twice as they used the wrong power pick up and didn't realise the camera was apparently working onky because of its integral Battery

My only regret was not discussing how they proposed to do the work as I consider the result was a bodge.

That's been my experience too - They're fine for routine servicing, and 'common' things like brakes, or things mostly directed by a machine (e.g. Tracking, ac regas), but outside of that the 'mechanics' in the London franchises seem woefully inexperienced and seem to lack any common sense. Unless I'm aware of a TSB with instructions, I try not to let them handle anything out of the ordinary any more as I've lost confidence. I'm glad I fitted the Dashcam myself, after the dealer said they couldn't do it without charging me for a £50 part (I still don't know what this part is!!) as everyone who's had the dealer fitted one so far, has had the fuse cover left off or cable-tied it so it just knocks around under the glovebox...!

Where did you connect the supply I’m about to fit one myself and the rear camera?

I pulled out the dash and ran it into the back of the lighter socket - Like on previous cars, it detaches via a connector, so I ran the cables into the connector and reassembled it; This one is nice as it has actual clamps which hold the connector in, not just friction like on the blade connectors used on the older ones.

It's a bit of a faff to connect up, as the cable loom is not very long, so getting the wires into the connector was a right PITA (As was removing the dash - Again, kudos to flash22 for providing the official dash removal instructions!!), but the result is much neater than a piggy-back fuse since you can't close the fuse cover with the piggyback sticking out! The other end of the cable I routed over to the passenger side door past under the HVAC stuff, where I run it up the door rubber seal thingy, then up inside the windscreen-side of the A-pillar (Important, so you don't obstruct the airbag!!!) into the headlining and around the gigantic rear view mirror pod into the Dashcam (I'm a rebel and mount it on the driver's side unlike most people )

I follow the rule of always getting at least 3 quotes, even among Toyota dealers in the same region you see big variations in price for the same repair jobs.

Yea, esp. if it isn't a fixed-price service - The hourly rates for mechanics time are usually fixed, but the estimates of time needed can vary quite a lot!

I think it looks great !

Can you post a link from where you bought your wing mirrors indicators?

Came packed OK, protection covers on lens section, etc., still going OK.  I bought the ‘smoked lens’ version which I like as I think it blends in with the rest of the side mirror but still gives a bright swept indicator, personal choice.
