Rav4 2003 Spare Wheel Cover

I have a  3 door 2003  Rav4 which is still going strong. But I noticed the spare wheel cover is not as secure as it used to be, maybe down to weathering over the years. I don't want to spend £400 for a new one, so can anyone suggest a way of making the cover more secure please? It is the type that just slots in so nothing I can do so make this tighter. I was thinking some kind of clips/clasps on the sides but I don't know how I would attach them seeing as the plastic is quite thin? Maybe someone on here has come across the same issue and found a resolve? 

Any tips/ideas would be appreciated please.
