Is there a lot of choice in FR to join a nationwide system for roadside assistance in case of mechanical failure ?

Not that I know of, Toyota has it's Europe wide assistance plan, and most, if not all, insurance companies offer various levels of roadside assistance, in my case it looks like it adds about 40€ to the overall annual insurance cost.

Most manufacturers contract with existing breakdown assistance providers for a manufacturer branded assistance service - the terms and conditions of which may differ from the provider's own assistance service.

For example in the UK up to the late 90's or so Toyota used the RAC. Since then Toyota have contracted with the AA for Toyota Roadside Assistance - which incidentally has been a Which? Best Buy for a few years based on a number of factors including customer score, response time, etc.

FROSTYBALLS changed the title to What ever broke down on your Aygo (or C1, P 107) >2014 ?

Since we're talking about >2014 that means the reference to the Peugeot should be 108 as they dropped the 107 name when the Mk2 was released.

I think it works differently in some countries in Europe, more like the alternative non-AA/RAC/GF/etc. schemes we have here (I forget what they're called!) where there is a central control, and you call them if you have a breakdown and they contact a nearby local garage/recovery company to come get you rather than like e.g. the AA/RAC who have their own nationwide fleet of recovery operatives.

I'm bloody impressed that little Aygo engine can last so long tho'! Very impressive, it's the sort of mileage we'd only usually see here regularly on the 1.4 D4Ds!

Agree, heard of a lot of first gen cars that done 100K+ and quite a few 150K+, ok they can drink a bit of oil, but they soldier on, considering it a very cheaply made car compared to 2nd gen car, they can take some punishment if regularly maintained, not that ours will ever get to that mileage, but it reassuring to know it can. Back in the day the dreaded tin worm would of killed a car before that kind of mileage, but again rust and welding on these cars is rare as well! doubley impressive.

>2014 means 'to 2014', whereas <2014 is 'from 2014'.

So as the title says >2014 it refers to the 107.

I meant '>' as bigger than , so after 2014.

2015  or 2020 being a bigger number than  2014 so > 2014.

Sorry .. didn't want to make it difficult for anybody.

Actually I wanted to know most about post 2014 but since most information comes from the pre 2014 version, I am happy to know more about that too.

Mechanically both series are rather the same so it's still good to know what the problems were before.

Title changed to relate to the second generation (from mid 2014).

I have a Aygo X Play.  Took delivery from new in April 2016.  Two weeks ago the touchscreen went completely black, although I still had my radio station and reversing camera.  My local village garage had a look when doing my MOT/service for me.  This resulted in losing the radio.  Then on Saturday the screen magically all came back long enough for me to choose my fav preset radio station.  Then it went again. Back again today for couple of journeys but went again.  Toyota want over £2000 for a complete new unit, I refuse to pay this as it's only just done £40,000 miles, but of course also just out of 6 months warranty.  I would have thought something like that should last longer than 5.5 years.  Tried Toyota Head Office with an email no reply.  Has anyone else experienced this problem please and have any advice?  On one hand I'm just happy to have my radio back and I also have the reversing camera, on the other would be nice if it all worked all the time !!

Multimedia is made by pioneer. I have no idea if they would manage to repair the unit. But it's worth investigating.

It's rather simple to take out or put back in, this unit.

Multimedia has a limited warranty, not the same as the car.

You could find an alternative brand on the internet that has a possibility to use camera signal. They do exist. I found one for 330 euro but I am afraid it's maybe Alibaba quality.

Getting one from a scrap yard is an option too, preferably one from 2018 or younger cause they have Android auto / car play. Find one with three buttons on the front.

If you just want a replacement touchscreen/radio ( 2 button) there are plenty of touchscreen/radios on eBay for about £200 or less, they are not coded so are simply plug n play. Remember that Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108 of the same age have the same touchscreen/radio so more choice. To replace the touchscreen/radio is fairly easy as well, just pull off the black/coloured surround held on by rubberised clips, the tray above also just pulls off held in by similar rubberised clips, helps access to remove this. The Touchscreen/Radio itself is held in by 2 screws, one each side and then it pulls out. It can be quite stiff to pull out, but does come out honestly. Then just unplug each plug lead and plug into same place on new touchscreen and refit.

If you asked for a goodwill contribution for an 'out of warranty' repair from Toyota, as you've taken it outside the Toyota dealer network for servicing, that is probably why they didn't come back to you. Most manufacturers will only consider help with 'out of warranty' repairs if the car has a full dealer service history.

Could probably pick up a used unit from eBay, a breakers or similar.

I don't know about your area but here, there are a lot of Panasonic (+ CD player) available everywhere.
They are cheap too.

It's a radio and bluetooth system.  I think, since they were built in for the same models, they must be interchangeable.
Just : not fit for people who want the reverse camera, unless they install an other screen for it.

Found a few for around 50-75 euro which is a cheap solution for whoever wants this kind of radio.
No idea what a seperate split screen for reverse camera was.
If i were TS , I wouldn't choose this solution, but it could be ok for somebody else.

My personal opinion - in this situation of replacing the radio and if owning a smart phone I would suggest going for the later 3 button version that supports CarPlay and Android Auto. These often appear online and at car breakers for much less than Toyota want for a new 2 button version.

Did you get this fixed? My sons is doing exactly the same.

It sounds like they just got a replacement from a breakers yard?

My brother's Mk1's headunit also had a failed display - It seems there is an issue with the ribbon cable connections for some of the LCD displays, maybe the damper environment up north causes them to corrode or something??

If it's serviced at Toyota, then get them to fix it under the new Relax warranty!
