Plugging any accessory more powerful than phone charger in cigar lighter port trips turn signal or other indicator. What could be causing this?

2006 Toyota Rav 4 (Gen2). Plugging any accessory more powerful than phone charger in cigar lighter port trips turn signal or other indicator. This just started happening on a consistent basis. Turning of the engine and restarting seem to reset everything to normal as long as you dont plug another accessory in.  The accessories in question are an inverter and a tire compressor both designed for use in auto. What could be causing this?

The current limit is 10A on most accessory sockets but I would not want to load them at that rate for very long,  I've used a small type pressure pump without any issues.  It would depend on what the current drain is for your inverter and if it's likely to interfere with anything when operating, e.g. it might be pulsing the 12v Battery supply?
