I sometimes look at the green and blue power bars and I see that the green bar is related to how hard I accelerate so I guess that for best economy I should not let the green bar go into the Power area. However the blue bar seems to be independent of the green bar and is constantly varying, I don't know what information it is supposed to be conveying.  Can anyone explain what these bars show/mean?

What blue bar's that? I thought the Corolla had a more conventional analogue dash with a rev counter...

From what I remember of the Corolla dash, a lot of it was blue so I can't remember

In my Yaris, the power gauge has 4 different sections - Charge(Blue)<- 0 -> Eco(Green)->MoreEco(?)(Green)->Power(White) - Zero/No power point is between Charge and Eco - If the bar drops down into Charge, it means the car is regen'ing - there are 3 'blocks' or levels of regen.

Eco and More?Eco have 5 blocks each - Eco will, 90% of the time, use only the electric motor; If I go into MoreEco (I really can't remember what it's called! Eco+??), the ICE is fired up, but stays around 2000rpm and uses the 'CVTness' of MG1 to vary speed as high as you like. In Power, revs climb higher and MG2 is combined with it, providing much stronger acceleration.

The blue bar is how the car would like you to accelerate. Good luck with that. Most of the time it wants you to barely touch the pedal but just occasionally for no obvious reason it is happy to let you go as far as PWR. I've given up trying to make sense of the blue and I ignore it. But I used the green bar all the time and as you say - keep it out of PWR for best economy.

Your memory is bad 😛

The Corolla dash has an analogue rev counter on left, analogue fuel gauge on right then everything between the two is colour LCD. It can be configured to show either an analogue speedometer or digital speedometer. The Eco gauge can be flipped between a simple one showing your current MPG and a more complex one showing:

CHG/ECO/   /PWR

It has two bars underneath, a green one (current acceleration) and a blue one (what the car suggests).

But I'm correct, aren't I? I mean, most cars have had that layout for several years now: Analogue dials to the left and right, with a digital MFD in the middle, whereas the newer ones like my Mk4 have gone fully digital (Aside from the lower spec ones, and also the GR4, which retain the analogue dials IIRC)

That's why I was asking, as mine always has the power gauge displayed around the edge of the left digital display all the time, whereas I'm assuming it's not normally visible on the Corolla so I don't know which 'blue' bit OP was talking about - It's been a  while since I've driven one so you can't expect me to be as familiar with it as you!

Hmm, so the blue bar the OP talks about is a sort of 'suggested' acceleration bar? That's pretty neat - I hadn't noticed that when I drove one. I wonder how it knows what to suggest...? Or is it just a fixed 'curve' of acceleration it tries to get you to follow? I don't think the Mk4 has such a thing (I would ignore it anyway  ), but just keeping it within the green Eco band seems to be enough to get decent mpg!

Yeah the thin blue bar underneath is a load of b******s

My focus is more on the blue 'charge' segment to the left and trying not to max it out too often while braking. My thinking (correct or otherwise) is that as long as the charge bar is less than 100% full then I'm not actually using the brakes and therefore not wasting energy by slowing down too quickly.

You should be able to feel the brakes "bite" when you go from region breaking to actual callipers pinching a disc. That's how I feel it on the Yaris.

“Rev up your engines” 🤣👌 ,

without any joke now I personally do prefer the older style power gauge like Auris , CHR and most of the hybrids that clearly shows where your power comes from and how much instead of a rev counter like on the Corolla, seen some markets Corolla has that but not in the UK. Actually this gauge plus gear selector from Prius and a bigger clearer screen like some new 4x4’s models would be a nice upgrades for next generation Corolla imo.
