Should I get my clutch checked?

Isn't the Aygo's clutch the normal sort of self-adjusting hydraulic type that most cars use these days??

I never liked the clutch in the Aygo - I don't know why they didn't just nick the one out of the Mk1 Yaris! That one was lovely - Short throw, bites dead centre every time - much nicer to use than the Aygo's one, which bites far too close to the top of travel for my liking, and has a load of pointless deadzone at the bottom.

Still, won't be a thing soon with the shift to EVs...! I do wonder how people will be able to get manual licences when driving schools can't get manual cars any more...!

No, it's a manually adjusted cable.

Yes, seriously. Same design the Aygo has had ever since the Mk1 was originally launched in 2005.

Good grief, and I thought the last car I'd driven with a cable-operated clutch was one of the old boxy Ford Escorts!  

At least that solves the mystery of why the biting point is so weird compared to the Yaris!

Hyundai have cable operated clutch in the i10 but it's easier to adjust than Aygo. Presume it's to keep costs down, margins on this segment of the market must be very tight. I don't mind them, just set mine to where the bite point suits my big feet, and clearance is maintained between thrust bearing /pressure plate and gears change cleanly.

To comfort myself and others , I can add that in the Dutch movie i posted where we see a 107 with 422.000 km (in 11 years).
It was still on the first clutch but was used a lot on the highway of course.

You actually cannot see the adjuster nut from above though.
In my wife's Aygo, I removed the Battery and Battery tray to provide some more space and reach the adjuster to set a somewhat lower bite point.

She has done > 170.000 Kms in her Aygo and still has the original clutch.
She knows how to drive ... 👍
