Electrical issues

Hi

Had my Yaris since 2013 with relatively no problems - till a couple of weeks ago. After filling up a petrol station, turned ignition key but nothing happened. Tried zapping the remote which did not even flash the side lights. Tried in vain with no success and called out the AA. He was equally perplexed and checked the Battery (the standard not the hybrid one )and it gave a good reading. I think he said it was over 7 volts which should be enough to start it Then sudden all went back to normal and it worked ok - he said get it checked with your usual service centre.

A service was due so booked it in and all the service was completed - and the mechanics said Battery was fine. A few days later the same thing happened again.

Went for a long journey and after just leaving the vehicle for less than 20 minutes.   No response from remote fob (and before you ask put a fresh Duracell Battery in). Also tried second fob but the same. Had to unlock door manually and again put key in ignition and nothing- but noticed the malfunction lamp flicking and a clicking sound. And again after a couple of minutes turned key and all works

Have tried to recreate the error but to no avail. Has anybody had something like this before?

The Battery is dead/dying 7-10 years is about right for an 12v AGM Battery assuming it's the original, lockdown has taken its toll on batteries, borderline voltage will play havoc with the electronics

Toyota Part number

28800-21181 (Yuasa S34B20R)

or

28800-YZZPC

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224628086547

the compatibility listing is incorrect on that listing

Note. The right-hand Negative terminal

if you have off-road parking, you may want to invest in a Ctek or a decent AGM charger

Thanks guys I will see if they replace under warranty

What warranty? Can’t see a warranty on an eight year old Battery. Maybe I’m missing something.

I was being flippant - when I got it serviced by Toyota and as it’s less than 10 years and 100,000 miles,  they told me I get a one year extra warranty. And at the service they reported my Battery as Ok - so not a historic issue - I will chance my arm and ask  when I take it for its MOT in December 😎

You may have misunderstood. When you service with Toyota they do a health check on the Hybrid Battery and give you a 1year warranty.

IIRC it will be £200 fitted, the Battery is not tested it just shows a voltage in techstream so come up OK - voltage can be fine, but the Battery looses it current storing capacity
