TPMS sensor , Use a reliable tyre fitter.

So the dreaded TPMS warning light was stuck on. Tyre pressures all good and still the light stays on indicating a malfunction.

After reading about the issue and finding that if you want it checked correctly i approached Toyota as they seem to be the only garage with the equipment to test the Toyota TPMS system fully.

Yep, problem with the near side front wheel  and reporting no communication to the pressure sensor.

Tyre off and bingo an aftermarket T Pro sensor was revealed.

im guessing the previous owner had the tyres fitted last year and the garage broke the sensor. quickly replacing it without informing the owner.

The sensors can be bought on eBay (£44) and claim to come pre coded to the car. Not sure how that are able to do that.

My advice is pay the extra and fit a Genuine Toyota one £57 plus vat and get Toyota to code it correctly to the car which is 30mins labour. False economy doing it any other way.

Remind the tyre fitter that you have TPMS sensors before they take the tyres off is the first port of call.

I had a tyre pressure sensor damaged a few years ago when I changed the tyres on the Subaru XV, I was on the way home when I noticed the issue I returned and they agreed they would fund the replacement as they were unable to source one. I got one through Subaru which was £125, the tyre was refitted and rechecked it was OK. I think the problem in my case is that it takes awhile for the sensor to display the pressure or error.

The TPMS sensors fitted on the PHEV are two part so should make it easier I guess?
