2001 Yaris wont start

Hi,

My dads 2001 Yaris has been sitting for about a year on his drive. I had to replace the Battery & now when i try to start it, the starter motor turns perfectly but  there is no sign of the engine catching, so sounds like no fuel is going in.

At first i thought it would be a fuel issue but now thinking it could be an immobiliser, i cant find any documentation but does anyone know if  there is one fitted as standard & if so do you need to reset it after swapping the Battery.

Any help suggestions much appreciated !

See if it starts with some EasyStart, the fuel will be stale - drain and refill, can you hear the fuel pump ?

Totally agree with the last suggestion. Use a two second spray of Easy Start, spray into intake pipe, if it is a fuel problem it will fire up for a couple of seconds. Try same again, if it runs for a couple of seconds and then stops, it is lack of fuel. ( the engine is running on Easy Start, only )

However you will not need to change fuel in petrol tank. Petrol does loose its ( Power/Combustion Flashpoint) over time but this is many years before it is incapable of normal combustion ( running an engine) I have started cars with petrol older than ten years old.

I always believe in cheapest and simplest first.

Disconect either of Battery connections.  ( Flash ) touch ( Spark ) against the Battery terminal a couple of times, leave disconnected for a couple of minutes, reconnect. Try to start again.

If you have the other key for the car, try using that ( transmitter in the key fob, breakdown)
