I pumped petrol as a part time job back then, well maybe a tad later, like early 70s.

Another factor I found was when the first set of tyres needed replacing, and you bought exactly the same brand and type of tyres you never got as good a mileage from the replacement set.

Aww I've never had a set of tyres last more than 20,000 miles, and that's the high end! My worst were just over 7000 miles, on some Continental Premium Contact 5's... they must have made them out of the same rubber they make Mk1 Yaris ARB droplinks from  (They were very good tyres, just not for very long  )

EV tyres sound like such a scam, I swear most of them are just rebadged van tyres with 50% markup

i`d go for michelin cross climate every time , in the past although on performance cars i was lucky to get 10/ 11k from front tyres , my last car "astra" had bridgestones factory fitted they didn`t give much confidence but still had lots of tread when i got shot at 23k. jury still out on the falkens.

Great mileage for 10” wheels, as far as I can remember the Mark 2 Escort had 13” wheels.

Misread the Mini’s tyre mileage 🤭, thought it was 50,000🤣, another senior moment 😡. Was that the Mark 1 Mini ??

I wondered why you thought 5000 miles was great!

I got 40,000 miles out of VW UP Bridgestone tyres, there was still plenty of tread left when i sold them.

I'm very gentle on tyres, but i fully expect to get only 10-15,000 out of my Yaris's tyres.

Only ? I'll be surprised if I only get that much. My 208 gave me about 30k+ Miles on the fronts. The Yaris is about 25kg lighter, too, fully loaded with fuel, that means about 40kg lighter. I would expect as good or better mileage from the tyres. Mind you, since I now run summer and winter sets, it's going to be difficult to estimate and maybe I'll not get 35k miles out of the Summer set before they are 5yo +/-.

I suppose the silver lining is that the OE Falkens are noisy beggars and a lot of us can't wait to be rid of 'em anyway! 😆

In terms of grip, they seem pretty good, if the very few occasions that I've pushed the car through a corner is enough to go on. Maybe they're a bit on the soft & sporty side? Might that also partially account for the noise level, since sportier tyres tend to have more unyielding sidewalls? Even so, I'm sure a premium brand would handle equally well or better and also last longer. Corner cutting (excuse the pun) on tyres often tends to be a false economy. Unless, of course, you're only fitting them to get the car sold - like Toyota are.

I'll be happy to get more than 20k out of mine!

One downside with going to 15's is the tyres are narrower so they will likely wear down faster than 16s or 17s...!

It probably doesn't help that the novelty of launching the car off the line hasn't worn off yet... :whistling:

I base my guess on what some other forum users seem to be getting out of their tyres.

I have just checked my records and my Corolla 1.8 saloon, bought March 2020, had the front tyres changed this March, with 12,712 (miles) on the clock. There was still a few weeks life left in them, so I should have been able to get to about 14,000. The car has had the 30K (kms) service, (everything is in kms, so I use a spreadsheet when recording details, that automatically converts kms to miles), a month ago and the rear tyres are still okay.
