Keyfob battery replacement

Hi everybody

Having took delivery of my car a few days ago, I am now getting a warning message that said Battery is low.

Is there anything stopping me changing this myself, as per the many vidoes on YT...?

Sorry if this sounds a silly question, but I had my previous car for 19 years, and the most advanced feature was the Cassette player, lol

Thanks in advance!

Nothing to stop you, just make sure you get a quality battery… something like a Duracell.

It's a standard cr2032 cell, stick with the name brands £2-2.50 each is about right, also check the date on the packet

hmmmm. had just ordered cr1632 as I saw this suggested on YT.  Haven't opened the fob up yet, so will cover all bases by also getting 2032; no big issue for a couple of quid...

I had to replace mine recently and after a bit of research I found that this was the most powerful 2032 around.  It also had the longest date and was the most reasonable price.

Hi Guys,

Always a sting in the tail, lol

I successfully replaced the batteries on both keyfobs with CR2032.

On first start, message came up 'key not recognized&'hold it to the power button..'  -which I did , and this seemed to  then'recognize'the keys as all normal functions appeared

Only thing is this; I dont seem to be able to lock the car.....

Any suggestions?

Don´t know if this could help but...

I had Battery problem with our 2018 phv keys but it seemed to bee bad connection between the small melat parts that hold the Battery.

I adjusted/ bendt the smal metalparts a bit and it helped

Did the fob open the car ?, go into the touch2 Customization menu and turn the keyless on/off then on/off

If the fob doesn't work, make sure you removed child safety film from the cell, make sure the battey is the right way up and the black plastic cap is clipped in place (this cover holds the Battery down)

car was in the garage at the time, not locked.. Did notice a film/sticker on the back of the batteries(Duracell +50 Extra Life) but didn't think this would impact..

Will try all of your suggestions; thank you both ! ~ give this a go on Sunday ...

As a general note Battery numbers are in two parts. Last 2 number's eg 32 is the thickness of the Battery on 1/10ths of a millimetres which on this case is 3.2 mm.  The first numbers are the width of the Battery in mm or 20mm in this case.

Clearly 2016 is half the capacity of 2032.  In emergency you can use 2x2016 instead of 2032.

This is not a suggestion for your key fob.

You can’t double up the batteries. 2016 and 2032 are both 3V batteries.  Therefore if you put two 2016’s together, you have just made a 6V Battery.

Flash/H - pleased to say your advice has worked. Removed the little sticky label on the back of the battery& also just slightly bent the metal connectors. Job done!

Thank you all!

I did say in general and in emergency.

What kind of emergency would warrant putting 6V through a 3V system and potentially ruining the internals of your key for all time?

Yeaaa, you be better off just using one and wedging a folded up bit of kitkat wrapper or other foil to make up the gap
