Sat nav trouble (TT2 with Go) / smartphone cradle for Auris

Has anyone else had problems entering addresses in their sat nav (Toyota Touch 2 with Groan)?

I have always found mine a bit slow and laggy (Toyota may be brilliant engineers but seem consistently under par with software / 'infotainment'), but recently it has been definitely squiffy. There seems to be a problem with the touchscreen in the top-right area. If I try to enter a postcode that includes the figure 1 or 2, for example, the result is often one of the following:
1. It doesn't respond at all (as if I haven't pressed it)
2. It beeps in acknowledgement, but the character doesn't actually appear on the screen
3. It beeps once in acknowledgement but then the character appears TWICE on the screen, forcing me to back out and start again
4. If I'm very lucky - usually after several attempts - it behaves properly so I get the beep and the desired character.

However, even if my luck is in and I get no. 4, if the next digit is around the same area then I have the whole lottery all over again. Very frustrating and time-wasting.

I expect the solution will be to take it to a dealer or car electronics specialist and face a big bill to have the darn thing repaired or replaced. Quite honestly, I don't feel inclined to do that, and much as I prefer using a built-in sat nav with a decent-sized screen, I might just give up and use Google Maps or whatever on my phone. At least I won't lose the map for several seconds every time I adjust the climate control (who ever thought that was a good idea?!).

Nonetheless, I would still be interested to know if others have faced this problem or if I'm just unlucky with mine, and I'm curious as to what the problem may be. I've always found the touchscreen a bit spongy to use, i.e. needs a good prod rather than just a light touch (maybe resistive rather than capacitive screen?) and am wondering if it's just some membrane that is wearing out or something. Seems more likely a hardware problem than some temporary software glitch.

Meanwhile, if anyone can recommend a decent universal phone cradle that fits well in a 2013+ Auris, I'd be grateful for any recommendations! (Preferably not too expensive or involving sticky pads that might leave a mess behind.)

Thanks!

You could try looking for Exogear Exomount, they have, IIRC, ventilator mounts for the phones, and what strikes me now as the best is Brobit, but they are expensive.

@CurranShelter Hi. Does your head unit look like this:

Mine is a Toyota Touch 2 with Go Plus on a 2016 Auris Excel Hybrid. It’s on the original 2016 full Europe map.

I had a couple of glitches with my head unit (bluetooth related) when I first got my car back in April, but a reset fixed the glitches. It might just work for you. I’ll post a link to the YouTube video.

Hi @DaddyBaddy, mine's the older pushbutton one that looks like this:

... though I don't know how much difference there is under the skin compared to yours.

Thanks for the YT link - I'll have a look at that.  👍
