Just been informed by my local dealer that my order (placed March 2022) for PHEV Dynamic Premium will be pushed back until "approximately mid 2023"

Original delivery was Sept. 22 then Dec. 2022.

Not happy!

Not sure why Toyota is doing all these?

This does not bode well for people like me who ordered one recently.

Ordered RAV4 PHEV Dynamic last week, were toldf 12months delivery right away.

We all just have to hope that whatever is cuasing the delays , will get fixed / improved over time

The car industry will just implode if things go on like this

I have doubts as to whether the retailer can legally enforce the increase in price, as i believe  this is an ‘unfair term’ under the sale of goods act

Most of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 in relation to consumer contracts has been replaced by the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Yep,  I placed my order for the exact same model in March 2022 and had a call from the dealer saying won’t be getting it until Mid 2023.

Originally the date was expected to be Mid Nov. 2022.

4.9% if you were to order today.

I ordered my RAV4 Excel HEV in early February 2022 this at 2.9%. Car has been built and left the factory 2 days ago, however the dealership said interest rate will be increased to 4.9%. They now want to re-calculate my monthly payments. I am really not happy this information though I know things have changed since February.

Please any advise on what I can do?

I suspect this is a try-on…. I ordered my RAV last year at the then 1.9% rate, when the first hints of rates going up appeared I made sure I got confirmation in email from the dealer they were sticking to the deal I had signed up for. You need some consumer legal advice from such as CAB or moneysavingexpert website, however it is possible given the economic market volatility the dealers have changed the small print.

The website today states the following:

Important Notice: Specifications shown are for model year 2022 UK vehicles, and subject to vehicle production lead times, the model ordered may be built according to model year 2023 specification. It is anticipated that your Toyota Centre will advise you of any changes in specification, and any price implication once your ordered vehicle goes into production (at the latest), at which point you have the right to accept such changes, or cancel your order and have any deposit returned to you.

According to this the options are to accept or walk away. 4.9% appears to be a better deal now as the website uses 6.9% as of today.

If the car has been built it will be a MY22 model ...

I am assuming that this is a PCP deal ... ?

I'm not sure exactly where you stand legally, but the dealership is 'honour bound' to respect the price. discount and trade-in that they originally quoted - though technically they do at least have the right to review the trade-in valuation.

The dealer has absolutely no control over the finance terms since this is agreed with Toyota Finance. If you have already signed the papers with Toyota Finance they are bound by the contractual conditions. If you are due to sign the paperwork in the next few weeks it is distinctly possible that Toyota Finance can impose a higher interest rate. If that is the case, you can either threaten to, or actually, walk away ...

Not a great choice but I doubt that you have any binding legal comeback.

Yes the car is MY22. The car has been built and has left the factory, according to Toyota email update early this week.

I did not sign any contractual agreement with Toyota Financial Services. I have now informed the dealership to give me few weeks to look at alternative way of financing the car, as I am not happy with 4.9%. However, I will still purchase the car.

Have you tried contacting Toyota Finance directly?

The dealer will earn additional 'reward' from them for the higher rate finance.....

Dealer told me to hold on as they are trying to get definite confirmation from Toyota Financial Services.  They said there are 87 customers affected from their branch alone.

My update from north Europe:

MY2022 order made March 2022, ETA September 2022. -> Changed into MY2023 order in August 22, without specific ETA -> I called my dealer the other day and now the ETA is April 2023 (with "priority", should be produced before the actual MY2023 orders made from June 2022 onwards)

Interestingly Toyota have just called me regarding the Yaris Cross and Corolla we ordered last month, to say both are still on target for March.

I wonder if it is to do with which plant different cars are built in?

I think it does, Yaris Cross and Corollas are probably built in Europe with much of the supply chain coming from Europe rather. RAV4 PHEV's (maybe the HEV's too?) for European market are built in Japan.

Yep, Corolla in Derby, Yaris Cross I forget where he said but Europe yes.  My HEV RAV is Japan built.

I suspect the delay to the RAV4 PHEV may be down to a shortage of charge flap hinges - still waiting.........

A quick Google of 'charge flap hinge makers...' seems to show plenty of availability, here in the uk at least , if that's all it si then we would be prepared to install our own flap things.....

Yaris is built in French France and the Aygo in Hungary (I think - or is it Czechia?)
