Thank you for your comments. Hope you enjoy the new Lexus. I will discuss with the dealer as crazy to not get the car as ordered!

but you won't pay for the bits you don't get, so the price will be adjusted.

It's not unusual because since you ordered it the base features for the dynamic has changed. You also get a better infotainment screen. You didnt order those nice new bits. It cuts both ways.

Other than the infotainment / dashboard screens, do you know what else has changed since when I ordered mine in February 2022?  There is no current brochure, so it seems impossible to know!

Update on mine from Finland:

Ordered 3/2022, first eta was 8/2022 --> 9/2022 and then last fall turned in to 4/2023

Production: 1/2023, left Japan 2/2023

Now on the way here, ETA 4/2023

Can't compare this order/model to UK orders, the model lineups/accessories are different let alone the fact the steering wheel is on the other side 😛 . My guess is that the production quota in the Japanese factories is relatively bigger for the Nordic markets than it is to North America or UK.

Hi, have you received your car yet?

Sorry for this thread drift however, is the Highlander similarly affected? I am only asking given there a number of elements shared with the RAV under the skin including the powertrain.

... and pretty much all of the IT systems. I don't know, but probably - just with the RAVs you can't currently build one on the web and there's no way to price and order one.

As far as I can see Philip you can't build a Highlander either.

As far as I'm aware the UK market Highlander is built in the US as opposed to the Rav4 which is built in Japan.

As you say, global production of the Highlander does appear to have shifted to Indiana ...

I suppose the US is its biggest market?

Well my car was due at the dealer on 26th but just received an email from Toyota that it has arrived. I have a VIN number but, I'm assuming that still has to be registered somewhere?

The dealer registers and taxes the car online with DVLA - usually on the day the customer collects the car. Insurance - the dealer will normally use drive away insurance to register/tax the car.

They can usually supply the registration number to you to arrange your own insurance.

If you use the driveaway insurance make sure the sales agent activates it before you leave - I went through the whole registration process over the phone with Toyota insurance while on the dealership premises with the sales agent, and later drove off, only to find I was driving around uninsured when I checked https://ownvehicle.askmid.com !!

Turned out the sales agent had to activate the insurance after I'd registered with Toyota Insurance for it to be valid, but hadn't!

What I meant was does the VIN number have to be activated in any way, I tried to use it to check the specs of the car but the Toyota system says it's not a recognised VIN. Any other car I've bought from new I was always 100% sure of what I was getting, but I feel this purchase is a bit of a 'lucky dip'

I do not understand what you mean by needing to activate the VIN? (The N in VIN is for number…..)

May not show as the car hasn't been registered yet.

There was a section on the Toyota site that allowed you to check your car specification via VIN number, but it didn't recognise my VIN. However, I have since realised that I was looking at the USA site (doh!) the UK site does not provide that feature. Hence, my query, did it need to be activated in some way within the Toyota systems?...obviously the answer is no, as it's an irrelevant question.

I had an update from my dealer yesterday and, as usual, it is not good news.  It now appears that my car is additionally delayed in Burniston, as Toyota are short of whatever parts it is that they fit there - locking wheel nuts, mud flaps, rubber mats?!?!

Apparently, Toyota won't release the car until everything is complete.  I'd take the car and fit whatever accessories need adding later but that isn't an option.  Let's hope that it doesn't take another year to source a set of rubber mats or whatever...

Certain "factory-fitted options" are added at the factory in Burnaston. It could be that mats and flaps are now in short supply; last year it appeared to be tow bars.

But, if it is simply the fitment of accessories - such as mats and flaps - your dealer should be able to get the car released and fit them for you 'later' once the parts become available. But that relies on your dealer being a bit proactive, finding out the actual state of your car, and 'adapting' the normal process. I appreciate that 'bullying' isn't in vogue right now but you could try encouraging your dealer a bit ... 😉

(And it could also be something over which the dealer has no control and can't help ...)

Thanks for that, Philip.

I did ask the dealer, when he phoned, whether they can just get the car delivered and add whatever bits are missing later but I was told that this wasn't possible.  The salesman is fairly new, though, so he may not be aware that this could be done?  Incidentally, I'm on about my sixth salesman since ordering the car - I've now lost count...

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that Mark, such a disappointment when it's so close. That said, an email I had on Saturday said my car was at the dealers, but I've not heard anything from them as yet. Now my mind is wondering what bits and pieces can't they find for mine!

Have you tried going to Toyota customer services to see if they can help?

Not a bad idea!  I haven't yet but it's worth a try, at least to try to get an idea of the likely day.

Just had a notification in app and via email that my car has arrived at dealership.

Called dealership and they say it sometimes does that when it arrives in Darby. Not sure who to believe really. Dealership has lead me on a right merrygoround.  They said they would call me back with an update.

Got my car in Finland. Very pleased. Going to get ceramic coating on it. The new digital cluster is "fun", but wouldn't really pay any extra for it compared to the previous they had. Infotainment seems okay. The best part if of course the drive, even though it slightly feels like driving a tractor sometimes. Got 16A charger installed, was about 1000€ cheaper than the 22kW charger (3x32A). 3,6kW charging speed is more than enough for me at home, and wouldn't make any sense to get the bigger since the car can only take 32A in one phase...

I'm also pleased with consumer protection laws, the interest rates have spiked 4...5% on car financing after the deal was done, but here with B2C transactions the businesses have to honor what was agreed on the original sales contract. The price has also increased over 7000€ since I ordered it, wouldn't buy it with these current prices.
