That's correct. I believe the heat pump system works off the 12v system, so the DC-DC converter is activated when remote climate control is used.

Not quite ... the heat pump, specifically, is a 240V device that runs off the traction Battery. Other components of a 'normal' aircon system - the fans etc. - will run from the 12V system. So, as you suggest, the car goes into a pseudo Ready mode so as to run the DC-DC converter to avoid killing the 12V auxiliary Battery ... I think ...
