3PMSF (3peaks) All season tyres for Yaris IV

I've been going around and around with my thinking. It looks like the top choices are Goodyear Vector 4 seasons and Michelin Crossclimates.

Last winter we had one snow storm that stopped me making the last 100 metres to my house, there's a 3PMSF mandate from 1/11 to 31/03. So I must have "winter" tyres, The highs are generally 5-10, and the lows are around 0, but not usually down to -10 degrees.

I have some good winter tyres on my car (Nokian), but they won't stand up to 35-45 degree summer days, and I was going to switch them to the new car. When the new Yaris arrives, I am wondering if I should just get either of the Goodyear/Michelin options and sticking to one set of tyres all year round, mainly because every time I switch tyres it's 40-60€ cost.

Does anybody on here have experience of similar temperature ranges ?

Thanks

I have Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons on my Aygo and I personally think they are a good all year tyre. They are good in our British summers, but have excelled in the rain and colder weather for me. A recent short snowfall, allowed me to drive round the side streets with confidence, as they offer plenty of grip in these conditions.

The bottom line is, that I feel totally safe in any weather condition, as safety is very important for me.

These days all season (all weather )tyres like Goodyear vector and Michelin cross climate are so good in winter conditions in that unless you live in mountain region of Switzerland you may just be fine with those all year round instead of switching summer and winter tyres on the same rims. If you are planning to do that change winter and summer , best practice is to buy separate set of wheels and once you have two sets wheels+tyres you can swap them yourself using you car jack. Been in Austria one summer and in a garage mot test the car owners were having their winter set in the trailer present to the mot tester for inspection and certification for the next winter season, how strict they are there , but obviously they have mountains and a lots of snow, lucky guys ❄️☃️⛷🏔🙂 If it’s me this is what I will do after car delivery and will sell the summer tyres that comes with the car. Drive with Goodyears on the oem wheels. 16” kind of best size for your car imo. 👌

I do go to the mountains (1000 metres+) once, at least, in winter. My specification Yaris comes with 16" rims, and I wouldn't want it any other way, that's why I can switch the Nokian to the Yaris. As you say, I can sell the summer tyres that come with the car. The dealer has said he will deliver the car with my Nokians, so the summer tyres will be, virtually, unused.

I am just wondering if I'll get more, which I strongly doubt, selling my current car with the Nokians.

That’s a deal, for the current car only you can know the best. 👍

Two more questions

  1. Load rating 87 vs 91, given the car weighs 1000kg +/- the the 87's are more than adequate, and the should be better for comfort, yes ?
  2. Between H & V rating it's not worth paying extra for V, because I'll never go faster than 130 kph +/- ?

I bought the Michelin CrossClimate 2 185/65/R15 87H and I'm extremely happy with them.

Check out the reviews compared to winter and nordic tyres. They're absolutely bonkers.

I went for the Goodyear Vector Gen 3, but it was a close call with Crossclimate 2.

There wasn’t much in the price difference.

German magazine Autobild tested about 30 tyres and put Goodyear on the top by a whisker.

I had many brands throughout my years of driving experience and in the recent years I found that Goodyear are offering one of the best tyres as good as Michelin or even better at very competitive prices which makes them best value for money purchase imo, they also withhold their properties even after wear out and therefore you can use them till the very last mm of life. Good choice here👌
