Hi, just ordered a PHEV, hopefully due May / April.

Been looking at charging options, I've got a 3 pin in the garage but it's on the far wall...... How long is the 3pin lead that comes with the car?

Cheers

Steve

7 meter from plug to plug but there is the "control box" part way along. If you need longer, I think Ernie bought a 10m lead from Screwfix (they aren't cheap!) Or you can get specific extension leads for a type 2 female to type 2 male. It's not advised to use a standard extension 13 amp extension lead. The other alternative is to install a socket from the garage supply closer to the car. I did this before I had a dedicated charger but used an new circuit off it's own breaker on the garage consumer unit.

Steve, OEM supplied as Nigel says is 7.5mtrs. I did buy a 10Mtr Masterplug version from Screwfix, it works well with no issues.

Ah that should reach fine.

Was also considering a 32A commando socket as a reasonable price option

Steve, unless you need it to charge quicker than the overnight 7.5 hrs probably save your money. If and when you buy a full BEV you might need a different charger and till then you can buy lots of charges with the money you would have spend on the 32A charger, 😊

Yeah, don't think I'll go full charger, was thinking about something like this

Not sure you’d get a lead to work with that I think it would be bespoke and there would be no intelligence in the charge cycle. However, I’m no expert so maybe will say different?

Ohme do a "smart" charger that plugs into a commando socket. It's still around £450 but you can get a discount via certain energy suppliers if you happen to be with them. I think it's called the Ohme Go.

Changing the socket will not do anything, the charger is designed to charge the car from a 13 amp socket, the charger talks to the car and the car talks back
