Hold Function

Looking into the RVLR reg 27 its more to do with not dazzling drivers and only using rear or front fog lights when the visibility is seriously reduced. ( if the police enforced this one they would be busy)

Appears that the rear brake light comments are more advisory / best practice.

Is having the brake lights on an infraction, let's assume it is at the very least best practice, but the text above says "should" and not "must". Is it so long since I spoke English everyday, that nowadays "Should" and "Must" mean the same thing ?

"Should" is not quite the same as "must" - the former can be read as recommended, the latter is more compulsory.

Personally I always use the hold function, as do most people in queues nowadays from the appearance of brake lights. It does stop that thing that I find even more annoying, creeping forward until you're sure that they are going to bump into the car in front.

I also use the hold function a lot of the time, just find it a convenience.

I mentioned it once before, if you use ACC, the car will slow and stop behind a car on front with out application of brakes. If a delay is prolonged it will apply the parking brake.  Only if it is a stop or you are first at the lights will you need brake or hold.

I invariably select hold but the button is frequently under gloves or coats.

Are you confusing with the automatic handbrake application?

As far as I'm aware, there is no way to prevent the hold function from disabling each time the ignition is turned off. You need to re-enable each time you start the car, but then it will stay active until you next switch off the ignition.

You can disable the automatic handbrake from applying when put into Park by pressing down and holding the handbrake button until it beeps, or to enable, lift the handbrake button and hold until it beeps.

From what I read it was by way of some additional non-standard electronics which was available from the far east. Not a good idea.
