Headlights

Hi everyone,

My headlights have suddenly stopped working. I have no full beam or dip. Everything else works fine. Side and tail are working, daytime running lights are fine, indicators are fine, as well as the hazard lights. I was just wondering could it possibly be the fuse that needs replaced for the headlights? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou in advance 😀🙏

Forgot to say fog lights are also fine. All fine except for the headlights..

Probably have HIR2 headlight bulbs which are single filament. Have you checked the bulbs?

It was the bulbs. I had to get 2 new bulbs in, and the car is going in for it's service this Thursday morning 😀

Unusual for both to pop at same time.

Weirdly, on my Mk2, both of the headlights blew at the same time too! I wondered if it's because, with one down, the other was getting too much power somehow, but then maybe it's just a high probability because they were the same age...

Think both bulbs can go if subjected to severe shock - ie hitting a deep pothole.

Hmm... I don't know why I didn't think of that... makes a lot of sense given the pothole-speedhump-expansion-join ridden hellscape of my work area!!

Exact same thing happened to me on Friday with my Focus, Passenger side was out after stopping for petrol, when I got to Cardiff and went to replace the passenger side, would you believe it, both were out. Lucas lamps both fitted the same time last year.

And I had a puncture as well, what a day that was and it was only Friday the 10th.

Yes now when I think about it, I think one was out and then the other went not long after it, as the drivers side headlight looked just slightly more dull than the other one..

Omg, I hit a pothole in March this year. Damaged the wheel and tyre, and it cost me £410 to get it sorted. So I put a claim into the council, took the photo's etc. What a carryon that was. It took 6 months before they even looked at the claim, and then another month to get my money back. Even then they said I wouldn't get all of the £410 back as they said my tyre had depreciated in value?! Unbelievable...🙄

Up where dads brother lives is absolutely terrible. Full of potholes. He lives in sheltered accommodation in a fold, and at the top of the drive is like no mans land. There is 2 businesses, the fold and a school, and everyone is saying they don't own it, including the council, so the holes are never filled in. I think osrt of thr problem is the car wash at the top of the road & with washing the cars the chemicals used are making the top of the road worse. It's a great car wash though on the plus side lol 😅😃

I just seen this.

Can I join this “weird, strange and unusual club”.  I have felt weird, strange and unusual most of my life….. ever since my mother picked me up by my years. My best friend, Noddy, said “that’s strange, weird and unusual”

My bulbs always goes in a very usual way, one goes and a few days later the other follow, therefore I always keep two spare bulbs in the car so no nasty surprises middle of the night, they are very easy to change, all I need is a mechanic gloves to protect my hands got dirty and scratched while doing it. I have actually a full set of spare bulbs for all applications and spare Battery for the car key, a spare tyre, repair kit, and Carista obd 2 for diagnostic👨‍🔧, things happen on the road and I like to get it done. 😉🏁

I'm hoping one benefit of going LED is I never have to worry about such things again!! (I really really hope so as the cost of replacing a sealed LED headlamp is eyewateringly high compared to a bulb!! )
