Toyota avensis price and DPF question.

Hi guys. New toyota owner guy here from Finland.

So i've bough Toyota Avensis d4d d-cat 2.2l diesel with 177bhp. driven 264.500km and 2007 wagon model.  it got all the luxury stuffs etc, such as beige leather inside and electronic seats, touch screen, xenon light and extra highbeam in front (would cost me 450e) and so on and so on. I payed 1450euros for the car. The only issue with the car was that compressor wasn't working and i got ficed it for 550e so ive got the A/C i need for summer times. so the car cost me around 2100euros.

is this price a good one for such car?

Second question about dpf. i never had diesel so i thought of it like petrol. I was driving with low rpm and eventually dpf clogged. Right now the car doesn't go fast at all, there is maybe couple of horsepower there but the rest escaped. Turbo doesn't kick in and ive got the fault engine light and vcs and trc off and so on. So what im doing is going with low gear and high rpm to push car to start burning. Any suggestion on what else i can do? and biggest question! WHEN DO I KNOW THAT DPF START BURNING!!!!! it says you'll smell and rpm will be high etc. but no notification whatsoever. what if windy and can't smell that dpf is on process? what if the A/C is on and my rpm spikes now and then? is there a way to make possible seeing actually an icon of dpf started and when ends disappears?

Third one. Im losing coolant from reservoir, don't see any smoke from pipe or anything in the oil. A friend of mine when we were riding he said that he can smell the coolant inside the cabin thru air vents. Any suggestion? is it Head gasket?

Thanks a lot. Mikael

Hi Mike,

Cannot answer your question regarding the DPF and regen, but it could also be the EGR. That could be the least of your problems, when you mentioned coolant loss! The 2AD diesel engines from the mid to late 2000's are known to have head gasket problems. This is well documented on this forum.

You need to read up on this -

If the head gasket is gone ,then nothing will fix it except replacement as far as I am aware.

Having said that I had coolant leak in an old Peugeot some years ago and a tin of Wynn's held it for a while until I could get it fixed properly.🚗

Head gasket repair can work surprisingly well but it's only a short term fix - If you just need to keep the car going before getting a new one or you're running the car into the ground anyway then it is ideal; Chrisfix did a test of some and IIRC it lasted a year before failing again.

However, if you intend to keep the car, it's best to spend the money to get the work done properly.

i will definitely consider both fixes.

my question about dpf its still on the table, how can i fix the cars dpf since its clogged. with obd i got P2002 Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold B1

im trying to rev but doesn't work, on highway and while driving right now im trying to rev to 3000rpm but its only possible downhill, uphill ive got the longest tail ever. I put the stp dpf cleaner but haven't kicked in at all, im warming up the car as much as i can with 40km driven non stop and can't start the regen, do i need to go for deep cleaning by removing? thanks in advance

apparently the car is in "limp home mode" which means power reduced.

update

after 3 days driving on limp mode in highway while everyone passing me felt like a jetcar cuz how slow my car was even tho 180 horses....

dpf cleaned by itself and burnt all i believe. and also the engine signal disappeared from the the tachometer.  Ive bought egr cleaner and i was thinking to clean it as soon as the weather enables cuz here is -15c

about the coolant, well i dont see any smoke from pipe or anything, i ordered the bar's head gasket sealer, apparently is one of the  best out there but cost 45e just for shipment... 75e in total, unreal... lets see how's gonna go, i bought the car really cheap and its not my target to keep the car for long time since the regulations in europe starts to suck more and more, need to go whether hybrid or full e-car
