Tachometer (or Hybrid System Indicator) doesn't work

Hi,

I just bought a 2016 Auris Hybrid and love the car. Sold as seen, so no way to go back, and with my luck this year of course something wrong turned up the same day. The Tachometer or RPM indicator or "Hybris System Indicator" as it is called in the hybrid model just doesn't move. The hand in the dial just stays at the bottom position and never moves regardless of the speed or acceleration of the car. The hand does light up red when I accelerate and it would normally then be in the "Power" section of the dial, but it never moves.

I was wondering if anyone has seen this before. Logically thinking it should either be the tacho itself or a signal from the ECU doesn't reach it for some reason. Not sure what to do next.

Thanks.

Had this happen once on my car, but after restart it was fine, and once it also showed some 1k lower rpm, so 2k was 1k, and so on.

If this is a one off thing, try starting the car and checking if it is still there.

The whole unit is a straight swap, should be just 1 connector. You can take the dash out to an electrician, they can test the needle to see if it moves when power is applied, or try to do it yourself if you are a diy person, for a few euros you can get the wire diagram from Toyota's web portal, toyota-tech.eu.

Replacing the dash is a plug and play job, except the mileage covered is not updated, so each dash comes with it's own mileage, always better to try to find one closes to your current state.

You will need a higher end scan tool or techstream to do a gauge test, 2 options send it off for repair or change it for another set with the same part number as yours and get the mileage corrected

Does anyone knows another Auris mk2 with similar issues? Has the op car got the mileage check before purchasing? Seen an info that these cars to correct mileage you will need to take dash out of the car., and if something like that has been done in the past , can eventually affect gauge works afterwards., only my thoughts. I had never have any issues with power gauge but I noticed sometimes the power gauge hand moves with slight delay, most people wouldn’t notice it but I did 🙂👍

Thanks guys. Haven't done mileage check, but it tallies with MOT history. Can anyone suggest some guide on how to take the dash out? Wouldn't want to break anything.

Thanks.

Maybe this video can help a bit. 👍

@TonyHSD you can correct the mileage over obd2 (Large lcd type) if it has the small lcd, you have to program the EEPROM on the PCB directly

the hybrid gauge is a calculated value, calculated by the processor in the cluster, that is turned in to an analogue voltage to control the stepper

My original gauges had an intermittent fault that logged a code in the power management module (no MIL)

Thanks for that Bob 👍

hello Maybe you can take a photo, what device and program do you use to adjust the Toyota Auris 2014 hybrid speedometer?
