Does anyone know the output of a 2019 corolla USB outlet? I have an inverter that has an output of 3.1 A so I was wondering which one would charge my phone faster. Thank you in advance. Tim. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year also!

to be honest i find the usb slightly to the left of centre console or right if your LHD to be absolutely fine to charge my phone, as a taxi driver i use 2 phones 1 personal and the other as a pda for my jobs and the mentioned usb keeps both topped up throughout my shift (obviously switching usb lead from 1 to the other)

I think the inverter would be quicker.  I found the USB port quite slow to bring a low Battery up to a higher charge state.

Bazzer probably keeps his phones at a higher state and the USB port is fine for maintenance.

Have you tried the 12v socket and USB plug?

If the USB port complies with USB 1 or USB 2 specs then it should be able to deliver 500 milliamps, USB 3 can deliver 900 milliamps (but may not be configured to do so in every case) and USB 3 dedicated charging port can deliver 1500 milliamps. Some ports can be classed as dedicated charging ports and deliver up to 3A.

Although I wouldn't like to second guess what you have here I would lean towards 900 milliamp as a figure to work to unless you have information to the contrary.

Its USB 2.0, the 2.1 amp USB ports are charge only

If it is USB2 then it is almost certainly 500 milliamp maximum. That will probably charge slower than the 3.1 amp supply in post #1 but it ultimately depends on what the phone can 'negotiate' with the USB controller. In any case slower would normally be appreciated by the Battery.

i think the OP may be referring to USB 3.1a aka USB type C rather than the 2.1 amp USB socket(s) (marked 2.1a)

TBH the USB version doesn't make much difference with the charge; It's more the plug type.

The original rectangular 'A' plugs and the slightly tapered 'micro' ones top out at 500mA for compliant sockets, and 2.4A for non-compliant 'charge-only' ones.

Now, USB-C - The newer one that has a thin reversible oval shaped connector - is a complicated mess, as by default it supports the same 5v 500mA data and 5v 2.4A charge modes, but it also has multiple versions of QC (QuickCharge?) and PD (PowerDelivery?) standards which offer higher amps and voltages and you need a lookup table to figure out what combination gives what charge

A lot of newer laptops are switching to this instead of using conventional proprietary AC adaptors.

I wouldn't expect much from the dash port as it's more of a data connection for carplay etc., although it supplies enough to increase the charge while using navigation at the same time, which it's quite power intensive.

If faster charging is a priority then I would go with one of those usb chargers made to fit into a 12v socket - there's a socket under the armrest on mine.

My latest work laptop has ONLY USB-C ports, there's not even a single USB-A! It's a PITA for my job because any wired network connections or USB devices, both of which I use all the time in the field, require the use of an adapter. The only positive thing about it is that the laptop charger can also charge a USB-C phone 😆

Yeah I hate the trend. My current laptop has ports for everything, but if I 'upgrade' it I'll need to carry a dongle tree around with me to replace all the missing ports!! And those USB-C ports are fragile AF; A lot of the council workers I sometimes deal with use USB-C docking port lcd monitors and the connector gets wrecked from the repeated un/plugging; I'm always having to tell them to try oe of the other 2 ports or replace the cable when they have trouble!

I bought my new laptop this year, it’s a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. I swapped in a 1TB ssd.

I spend a lot of time using that computer, Ijust love the look and feel of the industrial design, nowadays it looks retro modern.
