X-touch not switching to reverse camera

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello.

Got Citroen c1 2017(aka toyota aygo) with 86140-0h010 x-touch toyota multimedia. After replacing Battery, x-touch system no longer switching to reverse camera.

Checked the reverse pin in connector, and it does recieve 12v on reverse, under-dash fuses are good and reverse light is working. I believe the camera is stock, but cant be sure.

Any ideas what can cause/solve this problem?

Do you get a black screen or nothing ? Check the camera is getting its 6 volts in reverse

Nothing changed on screen, i could operate it normally. Tried to find soft toggle for camera in HU, did not found

You can do a camera and reverse check in the hidden menu

Press and hold the lower button (physical button) and turn the lights on and off 3 times (or until the menu comes up)

Hi,
I have similar problem with my aygo its not switching to camera , want to measure the reverse signal 12v but which pin to test?

As above, run the test in the hidden service menu  iirc its under function tests on page 2 (top right)

Finally got to this friend's car. In hidden menu, Vehicle signal does register reverse gear, but no second page in function check.

I will try to measure 6v and splice rca to see image on external tv

Edit.

I do get 6v out on hu and camera shows on external tv. I'm thinking about upgrading firmware to HU manually. Any suggestions?

If i remember correctly, it means "look from the back", so it may be pin #2

Also, i had reverse indication on black wire(originally -6v according to aftermarket adapters) in camera connector, when it was disconnected from HU.

when connected to hu, hu forced 0v onto it

click on "Vehicle Signal" in that hidden menu, the HU may not be getting a reverse signal or correct waveform from the camera

The camera looks to have moisture ingress (common) - replace the camera

Hi All,

I have the same problem as above in this thread where my 3 button 86140-YV020 Touchscreen Headunit in my C1 MK2 does not switch to the Stock reverse camera and does nothing when selecting reverse.

I've checked in the hidden menu and the touchscreen does change to ON when selecting reverse.

The reverse light also comes On.

I've also bought another 2nd hand Stock reverse camera but still have the same issue.

I then decided to buzz out check all the wiring front to back.

There's 4 wires for the camera.

Red

Black

White

Orange

HeadUnit to Footwell

Red ok

Black ok

White ok

Orange ok

Footwell to Rear camera connector

Red ok

Black ok

White ok

Orange not connected ...in fact the wire in the rear camera connector is Brown ??

Does anyone know why or even where it goes ? I thought it was supposed to be direct to the HeadUnit front to back ?

I also tried to bypass these orange / brown wires with a direct new wire but made no difference.

Any help is most appreciated.

Red, white and black are correct

Brown is just a cable shield iirc is just a ground, pin 5 at the radio

did you nick the wires for testing ? If not you may have a touch of the green crusties in the wires (camera plug)

ps. oem cameras are 6v

Ok...Thanks...ill check Pin 5 to see if it buzzes out.

I'll check for green crusties too....lol

Do you know what the Orange wire is from HeadUnit to Footwell camera connector....where does it go as it appears to goto back of car ?

all it shows is it terminates at a body point somewhere before the footwell junction, the shield just suppresses any interferance

UPDATE :

I finally now have a reverse camera in the car again.

Both new stock versions of the camera didn't work....not sure why. Am guessing faulty wiring loom in the car.

Only way I got it to work was by fitting a new aftermarket camera that is part of a new licence plate light which is hard wired to the +12v reverse light bulb and using a CAM-TY5-AD adapter cable at the back of the Head unit.

My head unit didn't have the camera settings in the menu as they disappeared when the original stock camera went faulty.... but activated again once the new camera was fitted.

yep, a reverse cam needs a reverse signal and video signal to activate it

I have been reading this topic with great interest.

Techfreak: What aftermarket camera did you have success with in the end?
The reason I'm asking is that the "license plate light" camera have a few different versions. The main differences seems to be the output format, either CVBS or AHD output. My guess would be the CVBS version.

Background:
My issue is not that the reverse camera does not work, but that my wife's car doesn't have one yet. She want's one so... Happy wife happy life.
Additionally I asked a dealership, and was told it was impossible to add on later. (I want to prove them wrong)

This topic have given me hope that it is actually possible to retrofit an aftermarket one, and still use the stock head unit to display the image.
It has also shown me where to find the connector in the footwell if it's not already at the head unit.

Only remaining question before I have before submitting to taking the car apart is to figure out where the revering signal to the head unit actually comes from.
I guess it is either the revering light switch or the maybe the gearbox has a signal going directly to the head unit (pin 2 on the 28 pin connector)

I've fitted a few aftermarket reversing cameras to Mk2 C1, Aygo, 108.

I bought some cameras off AliExpress, I think about £10 each. They come with cable and number plaTe light housing. You have to fettle them with a Dremel to get the bulb holder to fit. Run cable behind trim on drivers side down the car and up to the radio. Use an 8 pin camera adapter harness at the radio (less than £10 on AliExpress). You don't need to take the radio out. Just pull the dash trim forward and lift the vent piece on top of the radio to access the plugs.

The reverse trigger wire is P.2 on the 28 pin connector.

As above, done this to our 108 Mk2, got a car solutions adapter, but other places sell it now, a number plate light camera off Alliexpress, as mentioned the only faff is you have to drill out the bulb holder on number plate housing to fit stock number plate bulb holder. And if you got small hands you don't need to remove the rear bumper either. When I did ours few years ago now, did this for about £30, which was half price of 2nd hand stock camera.  Also camera I got had handy guide 'lines' on it as well, which some the early camera's didn't have. Beauty of these cars is all the trim just pulls off so makes running wires very easy, only need screwdriver remove 2 top screws on touchscreen/headunit and iirc that was quite stiff to pull out, but it does just pull out, pull off the vent cover above makes adding car solutions adapter lead very easy.

It you want it stock then just check before you do it cos our early 108 Mk2 had cable in headunit and also on inspection the cable behind the rear bumper, so could fitted stock camera possibly, but I didn't want cut rear bumper and above was a lot cheaper and you got the guide lines, so for me was better option.

Just for reference if anyone in the future should stumble on this topic the same way I did.

I had a quick look at the car yesterday (C1, 1.2L 2016 ).I was hoping that the wiring harness already had the camera connections fully wired in.
The answer is mainly no, but it does have the EK1 connector in the drivers footwell, and it is wired to the head unit. However the male connector that should carry the wires to the rear of the car is empty. So until further investigation, it seems I'm missing the part of the harness going to the rear of the car.
I know I can just run a new cable, but it would have been neat if I could reuse what was already there.

During the research I think I found part number for this type of connector. #90980-12544 for the male and #90980-12544 for the female.
I also found this document, describing general toyota wire/connector repair. It seems all the different connectors for various toyotas are in here.
RM06H0E (toyota-tech.eu) Page 131 and 237 show the connectors in the footwell.
According to google they are available various places, including AliExpress.

it's common for the dash loom to be wired down to the footwell but nothing back to the rear

its 4 wires, and the connectors are usually Sumitomo TS and TL series, using standard pins 0.64 II (025 II) you need the correct crimpers to fit them

posted the info in a few threads, but here is a cut and paste...................

the 8 pin is for the camera

you can get retention adapters

Warning !!, Do NOT wire 12v to the camera plug as the camera is 6V

78471513_aygomk28pincam.jpg.5415bf93a1c7abe24c5ab19466cfaac7.jpg

This is the socket view or wire side of the plug

Pin 1 - 6v to camera in reverse

Pin 2 - Video signal +

Pin 5 - Negative

Pin 6 - Video signal -

If you are going with an aftermarket camera get the power from the reverse light, ground to the body then all you need to run is the video (2 wires)

Maybe a bit off topic but how difficult would it be to install switch that would fake the reverse mode so I could turn on the reverse camera by myself?

Posted

@Tomv Probably relatively easy if the camera has a steady voltage (as in it is always on). That way the head unit just switches to the cam view when pin 2 on the 28 pin connector gets a 12V signal ).

My take on this would be: Grab a toggle switch of your liking. Connect one end to a steady 12V. Remove or cut the wire on pin 2 28pin connector (reverse signal). Add a wire to the other side of the "manual override" switch. Connect it via a diode in parallel to the orignal pin 2 wire. I would also add a diode to the original wire, so you dont reverse supply the original source, when using the override switch.

Capture.thumb.JPG.d8cddf0593c22cce98435bd1cf1df1f5.JPG

Note that I have not tried this, but it would be how I would do it. The diodes could be anything, we just use them to stop any backfeed in the system.
In this application, they are just used as one way valves for electricity.

It can be done even easier without diodes, by using a 2 pole switch like this.

it's best to use diodes as you may end up with a back feed or spikes without them. be aware later cars use a can bus reverse signal and 12v reverse
