I kind of envy those who just drive it without thinking about these things and only getting intersted when they see a warning light on.

I don’t like the car beeping at me, and clunks, thunks and rattles will either get on my nerves, or provoke action, like the clunking rattling from the worn out shock absorbers on my last car.

but I understand that Toyota has eventually not applied any automatic functions to prevent this in the new Yaris Cross

Afaik on the new Yaris ( at least MY21 and Cross ) you can remotely start the air conditioning system using the MyToyota app.  So the ICE could start even when nobody is in the car ( and this could happen also when car is in a closed garage ).

The same country that couldn't out-wit a floor mat...

Really strange considering that many USA car can be started remotely to begin to warm up your car while you're still under the shower.

Have you tried this, because I don't seem to be able to connect to any functions/settings on the car from My T, do I have to somehow directly connect the My T app to the car ? I get all the trip data in real time, though.

In my car, you have to sign in to Toyota website/MyT, then ensure your car is linked to WiFi/Bluetooth on phone. I’ve also found you have to pull in settings by pressing import settings icon.

That sounds like the bit I haven't figured out yet. So if I set the car to join the phone's wifi hot spot, I'll see some more options in the My T app ?

I don't know, I've not connected mine to any of those services; TBH I'm paranoid about stuff like that because I'm still not happy with the answers I got from Toyota about what happens with the telemetry the car sends back, but also if that system is always active it's going to surely drain the 12V faster?

I wish i was more like that to be honest. I'm neorotic about the car. Every noise it makes i have to know what it is. I'm still torturing myself for letting it idle for 30 minutes on the first day i had it, have i knackered it? That kind of thing.

I kind of envy those who just drive it without thinking about these things and only getting intersted when they see a warning light on.

I know what you mean! Like the first time I was stationary in traffic, and the engine kicked in to charge the Battery, but then suddenly got really loud and I could feel the vibrations! I was thinking oh no has a balancer shaft failed or something?!

But it seems that's just how it is when it's charging via MG1 alone - A stark contrast to in all other situations, e.g. when the engine is running with the car moving, where it is much smoother!

Also the weird clunks and clicks and whirrs it makes when you're parked up or if you turn it off but sit in the car for a bit! Contactors, steering lock motor, electric oil and coolant pumps etc.

But I'm getting used to them now so I know which ones are normal and which ones are not!

Not really, but it will help when looking for Petrol prices, parking and allow car to download settings from MyT app. Be careful though, the settings side of it misbehaves to the extent where it switches off other settings.

If you use a dumb/smartphone at all what difference is a bit more about your movements going to make ?

as for the 12v Battery, all of that telemetry goes through the eco-call system I’d bet, so send it don’t send it not going to make any difference, and especially if you’re using the car every day for longish trips.

Quite a lot I'd think? For starters, the SIM in my phone, assuming that's what you mean, is not registered to me, but the car is. Also, telephone companies have much stricter requirements on their data storage protections than Toyota do as they are subject to a raft of communications and data protection laws specifically for carriers. Toyota's data compliance requirements are that of a private company and much lower, plus they make you waive as many of those as possible when you agree to the EULA anyway.

For the base telemetry I'd assume only the DCM is active, but for the rest of the MyT connected stuff, more of it would need to be active. In fact, if you really can turn on the AC system remotely as someone said above (I'm sure this is wrong and not actually possible with the Mk4, but I have no way to check fist-hand) then much more of the car's computer system would need to be active to wait for that to happen I would think?

Unluckily my Yaris IV is My20 so the new features are not available.  On your one you should be able to use more features on the app.  It should also tell if the car is locked or not.  I can only read on app the position of the car, the level of fuel and the total km.

According to what I've read by some other users that have got the car in the last months ( and by the app release notes published on Google Play Store ) the app should also allow you to lock/unlock the car and start clima.

Yes, I saw car is locked, but now when I check the My T I don't see that information. I'm very confused, it offers me a register multimedia device option, but when I go there I can't see the Touch 2, is it only for the models with navigation ?

The register multimedia option is only for the models with navigation.  Registerin you should be able to send a route or a destination to car navigation system directly from the app.

Are you using the last version of the app?

I think that in standby there's no difference.  The remote and the keyless receivers must be active to allow the user to physically access to the car and to remotely activate te AC, lock/unlock or open close power windows,  the standby unit should just switch on some relay.

I thinks so, I think it is OK, I was just confused about the register multimedia device, I don't have Navigation. They went through setup with me when I took delivery, but there was so much new information, I was rapidly confused. I am tempted to go through the linking setup again, although when I go into My T I have the connected services, Find My Car, Hybrid Coaching, etc. I guess that's all I can have. Although I did see the car is locked screen once today, but I don't recall how it showed up.

Yes, I checked in App Store, no update available. The manuals make no mention of remote access to AC, but it is possible to open close/windows with the key fob (1 press open doors, 2 press open windows, for example). I can also see the locked/unlocked status of the car, it is a padlock icon under the image of the car.

Does anyone know if the key fob (keyless smart entry) of the hybrid Yaris Cross is automatically turned off if it is idle for some time?
I have heard that some brands are applying this function to smart keys to increase security against theft.

I think that it happens but only after a long time ( more than a week ).

However you can send the keyfob in standby mode by hand pushing two times the unlock key while holding pushed the lock key.  The led will blink 4 times.

The keyfob will be operating again by pressing any key.

I often use this function when I'm washing the car because the high pressure water can toggle the smart key entry like someone touching the door handle.

C-HR already has it, Corolla gets it for 2022 MY - as for the Yaris family, no idea so either ask your Toyota dealer OR test if for yourself.

Get out then lock the vehicle & place the keyless fob on the floor next to it, wait a minute then try the door - if the door opens the answer is NO.

If the door stays locked, pick the keyless fob up then try the door again, it should now open.

I keep my keyfob in my pocket and when i come back to car I never need to touch the keyfob keys even after many days.

There's no need to touch the door handle to understand that that car has recognized the keyfob because the led on keyfob blinks and the courtesy lights are turned on when you're close to the car.
