Bulb upgrades to LED’s and Other changes (tested on PHEV)

The question of changing bulbs to LED’s has surfaced a few times so I’ve posted a separate thread.

I used the same bulbs for the vanity, curtesy lights,

the boot light, I original used the ones above but then changed to a more powerful version,

the rear seat bulb is a festoon I used this version, it was a pain to take out the old one and I had to use plastic tweezers which I also used to fit the new, I had to bend the contacts slightly, not sure it it should have been a different size but I know I’d pushed them out of place,

the LED internals are bight so you have to decide if you want that. I wanted a good level of light so I’m very happy with the results.

Wing Mirror repeater lights and puddle lights.

Reversing Lights,

The reversing bulb change is an easy one.  On the boot lid are two square panels these can be released and inside is a white/grey holder with the cables in a small clip. A turn of the holder and the cable extended out of the clip and the old push in bulb is ready to be changed. Interestingly one of mine just fell out never connected. This is what I used, it's W16W LED. No flicker or errors as far as I can see.

I bought a bug deflector to fit on the bonnet as yet not fitted as it needs to be warmer to attached the helicopter tape used to protect the paint in a couple of places. OEM part look good with all the required parts, well packaged and arrived in excellent condition.

I changed the reversing lamp bulbs after reading your post - thoroughly recommend.

My biggest issue with the interior lights is trying to find the d@mn switches in the dark!!

Have toyed with the bug deflector (after a stone chip on the leading edge of the bonnet about the size of a match head after about 3 months ownership of my 4.4). But not committed yet.

Would like more feed-back from owners who have them.

I read a few reviews that suggested that the OEM bug deflector does not eliminate bugs hitting the screen but does offer a degree of protection for the bonnet and windscreen. I’ve already picked up a slight chip on the bonnet in the area that would be covered by the protector so was happy to give it a try. The paint seems pretty robust in that the outer layers are damaged but not all the way through, I’ve also picked up a chip on the roof edge again not through to the metal.

Hi

Have to say that I am well impressed as to how tough the paint on the Rav appears to be.

I have had Fords for the last 12 years prior to this Rav and just thought that all paints were not very good anymore.

Just goes to show even in the paint world there are different levels of Quality.

Hi all just wondering if anyone has noticed the visor / vanity mirror led’s flicker when moving the visor ? both sides are doing it on mine - may need to get some different bulbs?

I have the standard bulbs that came with the car (not led) and no flickering, the lights are still dim though

Trouble is, where an incandescent bulb is relatively forgiving, and slow to react to voltage/current changes, an LED is all or nothing.  Our internal circuits are made for incandescent and leds have to spoof this.
