Help - Car Is Dead

Driving in the city today, dropping off wages. been driving for about an hour, engine nice and warm, no strange noises.

Park up for 2 mins, jump back in the car, into 1st gear - pull away hard up to the junction - 40yds away - 5000rpmin 1st gear - then nothing.

engine simply died.

Tried to turn it over, starter motor is spinning, but no ignition. sounds like its realy trying to go, no combustion whatsoever.

Wait for the AA guy, thinking it may be the cam belt, take of the cover - nope.

turn the ignition, cam belt spins - no combustion.

take out a spark plug - do compression check. diddly squat. nothing. dead. and i mean absolutely nothing.

Havent got a clue what it is.

AA guy said - could have jumped a couple of teeth on the cam and gotten stuck???

So, got it towed to my local mechanic, handed keys over to security guard - then he tells me that Mark - my trusted mechanic - has just bought a touring caravan yesterday and has %$(ed off for two weeks.

it's booked in on wednesday for new shocks, suspose the apprentice geezer is doing them, the car valet guy - who is also a mechanic and helps out when mark is away will be supervising the apprentice.

So it doesnt sound too good as I very much doubt they will be able to diagnose and repair such a job.

Anyone got clues as to what it could be, i know it could be many things - what do you reckon.

(and oh - i wasnt running nitrous or anything like that, just normal driving - havent used nitrous since staurday night at jae)

jack up a front wheel and put it in 4th or 5th gear and try to turn it by hand . this in turn will turn over the engine , not to start it , just to see if the cams are jammed , if it turns all the way then its not jammed up.if it does lock up then the aa guy is right.

to check the cams remove the top cam cover then turn the crank till the timing mark lines up with 0 then look where the dimples on the cam wheels are should both be at 12 oclock if they are at 6 oclock then you need 1 more revolution of the crank. if every thing lines up then cam timing is fine.

have you got a spark? is there fuel being injected? also check conectors on all sensors as one of these may have come off/broken.

cheers

Just a thought but on a car of that age, possible that the head gasket has gone?

Carlos- MR2 units do fit into celicas, they are just rotated 180 degrees if i recall correctly- so the beams should drop in matey (with modifications i would think) ;)

Holy thread resurrection Batman!!

what?? lol.

This thread is 4 and a half years old, and the OP last posted just under two years ago, so the suggestion is that you're probably not going to get a reply from them.

Your best bet would be to start a new thread, explaining the issues with your car, and then see whether anyone has any advice on what you can try to get it going again.

Good luck.
