Cabin heating on my Rav4 2000 MY has got me foxed.

Morning All

Apologies if this is in the wrong section but I couldn't find a specific forum for 'heating'.

The heater's producing warm air just fine but only on the passenger side including the feed for the windscreen. Moving the direction and heat controls makes no difference at all - only cold air comes out on the driver's side.

I've had a look in the driver's footwell where the control cables terminate on the side of the heater matrix and everything looks to be in place.

Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated - especially in this cold weather.

Thx

Kav

Hi Kev, and welcome to TOC

You  have a Rav4 and you posted in the Rav4 forum so you are in the right place. Forums are generally by Toyota model. You can do a word search. To  see all the forums click on Forums in the top left of your screen

Only a guess at a possible issue. I've got no expertise!

With the dual zone climate control I would presume there are two temperature controllers or thermostats, one for each side. Could it be the one on the driver's side has developed a fault? i.e. it thinks it is above the temperature you've set on the driver's side dial so blows cool air?

It's not a dual zone setup Nigel - very old and manual and one heat setting for all occupants 😉

So it sounds like a ducting issue rather than anything else ...

If I've understood correctly, you can point the airflow to your feet, face or the screen; you can change the fan speed; and you can adjust the temperature; but you have no control to send air/heat left or right (you just open or close the vents). If that is the case "it can only be*" a blockage preventing warmed air getting to the ducting to the right hand side.

* where "it can only be" actually means that I am guessing that this might be the case! 😉

Yep, that makes perfect sense and worthy of further investigation 👍
