Throttle body position sensor

Does the Auris have a tps? 1.6 2008

Just wondering as the idle/revs seems to be slow to react. What I mean is when I start the car the revs go up to about 2-3000 then very slowly come back down to settle around 1000.

same is try if I rev it when idling it is slow to come back down. When driving and changing gear as soon as I take my foot off the peddle the revs go up rather than stay where they are or down. All the reactions to throttle seem to get there but there is that slow up and down if that makes sense.

I have read that the tps could be the cause so wondering where it is and if it can be cleaned?

If electronic throttle body tps maybe build into the body and it’s not serviceable but you can clean the the body and the flap with throttle body spray and clean rug then disconnect the Battery for 20 min at least and reconnect, turn off all electric consumption accessories start the car and leave it idle for 15 min without touching anything including steering wheel. It might be a bit irritating on idle afterwards but after 4-5 time start and stops it will settle itself.

I would say probably not, as by that year most cars were being fitted with electronic throttle bodies and a pedal position sensor rather than a TPS.

In any case, it's unlikely to be the position sensor at fault. It's more likely to be dirt in either the throttle body itself or, if it has one, the idle air control valve (but many electronic throttle designs do without that part). Look for a guide explaining how to clean your throttle body and try that to start with. Don't expect it to idle perfectly immediately after cleaning, it will need time to re-learn.

Thanks I should have been more clear. I have cleaned the throttle body already so that’s what lead me to the tps but if it doesn’t have one then what else could be the cause?

Is that not just the 'rev hang' that a lot of throttle-by-wire systems do...? Also, is this idle rev test you're doing with the clutch in or out...? I find with the clutch engaged the engine is less responsive to quick pulses of throttle input, probably because it's spinning the whole drivetrain, albeit in neutral.

To be honest I am not sure I had a 2006 Corolla before this and didn’t have this hang issue. I have just got this Auris so seems odd to me but maybe it’s normal? I notice it with both clutch in and out.

just to note I have also cleaned the MAF sensor but no difference

Have actually just come across this post

So seems to most likely be normal. Will just have to get used to us I guess

Auris are well known for that drive by wire thing. Likely to be normal . I tried a few auris petrol only models but didn’t like any of them and one of the reasons for my dislike was exactly that throttle response, really not to my like to say at least .
