Wiper not operating with washers?

I initially thought that the front washer jet fixed on the arm of the front wiper blade on our 2020 Mk3 Yaris has lost the inner nozzle of the jet as the hole seems too big and the water doesn’t come out right. After looking at it and fiddling around with it, I now realise that when you are pressing the washers on the front the wiper isn’t wiping like it did, it doesn’t operate unless you specifically put the wiper on? It also seems if you put the wiper on intermittent you only get the first sweep, possibly related fault? Does anyone have any ideas, I have checked the 3 wiper/washers related fuses in the interior fuse box and they seem fine.

The car is not due to go to the garage until the end of June and as it’s over an hour round trip I don’t want to go for nothing?

You won’t be going for nothing, you will be going to get it fixed.

In my experience that won’t be the case, it will take one visit for them to look at it and then a second visit when they get some part which is never in stock. This wasn’t too bad when we lived near a dealer but now is a pain especially as we now only have one car.

The front doesn't have a jet its more of a stream you have to pull the stalk 4-5 seconds for the stream and wipe

there is only auto with a control ring on the stalk, no intermittent wipe, push up for a single wipe - Clean the blade with some glass cleaner and a cloth, due to the size they do pick up a bit of crud, your car is 2 years old, 2-3 years is about right for a wiper change especially with the grotty autumn and winter we are had/having

I tend to go with the Bosch aero twin  AR708U and Rear - H309

TBH, you don't have an issue it just a Toyota quirk

When you use the washers it should make the wipes work for a couple of sweeps, it did work like this and the handbook says it should. It doesn’t do anything other than the washer squirts.

Sounds like you don’t have power to the wiper motor, check fuses.

As stated I have checked the fuses and the wiper does work, just not when you press the washers (which they should)

my guess is a module, but I don’t know the full system.

Obviously not a common problem as no body else has mentioned it. So when a lorry throws crap all over the screen, instead of just pressing the washers and the wipers work as well, I will have to remember to put the wiper on and then press the washers until it goes for it’s service in June.

That is a long time to be pressing the washers…..all the time until it goes for it’s service in June. 😄

Is the car still under warranty?

It's all electronic - single wipe works and auto works, disconnect the Battery for 15-20 mins and let everything reset

I will pull up a diagram in a bit

Everything else seems to be working as far as I can tell.

I tried disconnecting the Battery as Flash22 suggested, unfortunately it hasn’t helped. I reckon it’s the module, but that’s a guess as everything works just not as it should.

A trip back to the dealership looks like the solution.

Definitely, just not yet. As it all works, you just have to remember to use it in a certain way it can wait for the service, then it will be another journey back when they get the part.
Not used to having problems with my Toyota’s, first proper fault with one since 1993, not bad I guess. Only had a few recalls and a couple of boot struts in all that time.

Why can’t you notify them now so that they can be prepared and have a replacement part on hand and save you the double trip.

I am yet to find a dealer who will go out of their way to order a part they will be stuck with if it doesn’t work that Toyota won’t pay for. Normally they will want to be sure it’s what is needed by checking the car over before they order anything. Dealers carry very little stock these days apart from service items.

Most of them have a sale or return arrangement, it can do no harm to ask them. Nothing ventured nothing gained 🤔
