Anyone upgraded the standard headlights?

Hey guys, so I took delivery of my 2009 Prius 1.5 T Spritit. Very happy with it and just wondered if anyone has tried upgrading their headlights to some sort of LED? I'm just thinking as its an older car they will wear out quicker and not the brightest.

Thanks.

That makes it a Gen2 Prius, pity you didn’t get a Gen3, it was a big improvement in many areas. They came out probably late 2009. Mine was a 59 plate.

Fitting LED bulbs into headlights designed for halogen will result in an MOT fail.

You might be able to do it if someone made a full LED head lamp unit for the old Prius - As I understand it, it's only a problem to swap the bulbs as, for some reason, nobody sells an E-marked LED replacement bulb and only E-marked bulbs are road-legal - but this seems unlikely, and if it does exist it'll likely be quite expensive...!

Halfords have a range of White and Ultra White bulbs (non led), these are road legal and won’t kill your MOT. I found the white spectrum much improves the visibility in both my mk2 they also do a range of internal bulbs in that spectrum.

This may help

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/special-notice-01-21-headlamp-conversions

Copied and pasted from the above website

From March 22 2021, not all motorcycles and vehicles will fail the MOT test if their halogen headlamp units have been converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs.
