The manual says 75w grade, but I never found out if its 75w90 85 or what....will be handy when I get to that time to change.

Either of these will be fine as long as is GL-4, you can buy Toyota own gear oil.

The cars requires a Mono Grade 75w oil as stated in the manual not 75w80, 75w85 or 75w90 use of the multigrade oils which get thicker by design as they heat up causes higher friction levels, increased wear and poor shift.

Mono Grade 75w

That's the clue, understood and thanks for the link, I will add to my watch list.

I am planning on doing gear oil at the time of clutch change (like I have a choice😊), only 50k and already quite high bite, might squeeze to 70k.

Do they really get thicker as they heat up? or just that they don't 'thin' as much as a monograde as temperature rises.

That’s what I thought, multigrade oils usually are superior to mono grade ones and can operate safely at various temperatures where later can only provide enough protection at certain temperature. If Toyota says 75W then let it be , but I believe that if no 75w is available then 75w90 GL-4 it’s a safe bet and can be used without issues. No argument here, just my two cents 👍

Indeed. 75w90 has a viscosity akin to a 75w oil at room temperature and like a 90w at operating temperature. But warm 90w is still much thinner than cold 75w.
