Dear all,

What is included in the protection plus pack for the C-HR? Bootliner, mud guards and rear bumper protector? Has anyone got this pack ? I was wondering are mud guards any good as I don't see them in any cars anymore?

Many thanks,

Sol

We have had them fitted to all our cars - 22. Have them on our current ones. Usually they help reduce road dirt on the rear of the vehicle.

Thanks Mike. You  mean mud guards (mud flaps) or the protection plus pack? Don't they break when on speed bumps and let more sound in the car from the wheel arch area where they are installed? Do installing them damage the wheel arch area?

On our last four Toyotas we've had the protection packs for those models - Corolla, two Auris and an Aygo - and the equivalents on our Hyundais. Generally the packs are better value than buying, say, three of the four items seperately. Price up the individual items to check against the pack price.

We always have mud guards/flaps on our cars. Never had them break or dislodged on speedbumps, or similar.

In my search for nee CHR, one of the dealers say that there cars would come with factory fitted protection plus pack. So i should not object to this based on your experience.

You've had 22 cars?? You should get a side hustle job doing long term car reviews for things like Auto Express and HJ and Parkers etc.

Protection Plus pack is worth it just for the rubber floor mats and the mud deflectors. They do look ineffectually small but it is amazing how much difference they make - My Mk2 didn't come with them so I got some from the dealer (Surprisingly cheap for Toyota!) and it reduced the amount of guck being splattered across the front doors by like 90%!

Yes - new cars starting off with Nissans (before the Renault alliance), then (Rover built) Honda, Corollas, Primera, Civic, Primera, Mazdas, Toyotas, and Hyundais.

I had the Rover built Honda, and would have bought another one, but Rover developed their own engine which was a disaster. Thus ended a merger which would have been the saviour of the Rover brand.

The Concerto (Honda's equivalent to the 200) had an interesting production. The Concerto/Rover 200 was based on the Asian market, Honda Domani, and built on the same line as the Rover 200, but used Honda engines. The cars were built at Longbridge and shipped to Honda at Swindon by rail to undergo Honda's quality control inspections. Cars requiring rectification were shipped back to Longbridge, rectifed by Rover and resubmitted to Swindon.

The week that Honda were due to take a stake in Rover, BAe, the then owners, sold Rover to BMW. Honda straight away began removing their tech from Rover.

Interestingly, Honda would not allow dealers to fit Rover parts, as they hadn't been quality assured by Honda. We had proof of this when the driver's door switch for the alarm failed, and, to get our car back on the road, the dealer had to take a switch from a new Concerto for ours, and wait for a new switch to come from Japan.

I had a 216 GSI, Concerto based back in the day.  Excellent car, then some years later a ZS180, a really great handling quick car let down by MG penny-pinching.  Plastic clutch brackets, not metal for instance.

+1.

Yes, they are very discreet, but surprisingly effective. I didn’t buy the Toyota rubber mats, but found some aftermarket mats @ < 50€ that are pretty close in quality to the real deal. LHD only, though.

Thanks @JillG. Is that because mud guards is not in the pack or something else. Just wondering what is included in the protection and protection plus pack?

My understanding is

Protection pack contains: Boot liner and rear bumper protection plate

Protection plus pack contains boot liner, rear bumper protection plate and rubber floor mat

Can somebody shed light on this?

Protection packs will vary between models.

On some cars the mud guards may not fit if there is a body kit or similar on the car with sill/rear bumper extensions - for example on the Corolla Colour Collection circa 2006 (see picture), mud guards wouldn't fit due to sill and rear bumper extensions, but on other versions they would.

Mud guards / mudflaps are a individual accessory item when you configure a C-HR

You are correct there are no mud flaps in either pack and we have just been quoted £167 to have them fitted.

Are you using Inchcape Toyota in Kidlington? Are they good?

Yes we are using Inchcape Toyota in Kidlington.  Very good but trade in value was quite poor.
