Removing A Pillar

I think there's a small rattle coming from behind the A pillar towards the bottom by the dashboard.

I propped it open and I can see a yellow clip which holds it in place ( my car has side airbags )

Is it an easy job with some pliers to unclip it, take the A pillar off, fix the rattle then clip it back in again ? The gap seems very narrow and looks tricky to fit pliers down it, I definitely cannot do it with fingers

Mk2 Yaris.

Thanks

Update: Managed to remove and reinstall the A pillar fairly easily but the blasted sound is still there when I go over small bumps 🤬

Used loads of anti-rattle tape round all the cabling, still no luck

Might be contact between A pillar trim and dash or screen. Try some tape on locators of A pillar trim where it engages with dash.

Use some Tesa tape on the bottom edge of the A pillar trim

Edit. Do you have tweeter in the A pillars ? If so, make sure they are secure as the plastic can go brittle over time

Not familiar with the Mk2 - does it have any plastic covered sensors on/in the top of the dash? My partner's Mk3 was relatively quiet, her Mk4 has a dark tinted sensor on the left dash speaker (JBL) similar to what I had on my 2015 Auris - that rattles occasionally. The Auris rattled and took me ages to find it and eventually found it was one of the plastic covers on the left and solved it by stuffing a microfibre towel inside the dash behind the glovebox and 99% solved. Rattles sometimes sound like they are coming from one place but can be affected or caused by something further away.

Thanks for all the replies guys. It's not a rattle, but an annoying pop/tick sort of sound when going over small bumps..

I have tried a load of black tac ( same as blutac but stronger ) and anti-rattle tape which I'd assume is what you mean.

Here is where I shoved the adhesive and tape ( all the way from the window to the right of the fan/heater ) so where the a pillar meets the dash - there's no movement whatsoever when I press down firmly there is no noise, only when driving

Also. Yes I do have tweeters, this is what my A pillar looks like ( taken off eBay )

Remove the trim and take it for a drive and see if it goes away

Good idea. I'll do that when I get a chance 😁

Do you mean on the inside of the a pillar here?

Removed A-Pillar,  spent hours putting anti-rattle tape around any loose cabling. Seemed to fix it, but then the noise returned.

As you said, I inspected the inside of the a-pillar where the tweeter connects to and it's entirely robust with no rattling or movement.

I'll buy a replacement A-Pillar off eBay and see if that does any good ( also managed to snap the white connector so could do with replacing, the yellow security one is fine however )

The sound is more apparent when the car is warm

The sound doesn't seem to be coming from the A Pillar itself, as I took it off, and inspected it thoroughly, tapped it around etc. and it made no noises whatsoever

Are these correct?

If you see the foamy bit here , mine doesn't have it. If the A pillar I posted above off eBay is the right part I'll give that a go.

its worth putting some CCF or indeed some felt soundproofing on any of the hard surfaces in the car - this includes behind the A, B & C pillars, across the reinforcement bar under the clocks and around the centre console.  Certainly on the Mk1 there was perhaps a budgeting exercise in place as the types and finishes of the plastics are not of the highest quality.

Get some black self-adhesive felt and use that wherever you can.  Also, use some damplifier-esque layers on any 'tinny' sounding plastics.  Chasing rattles in a yaris is a never-ending task!

Also make sure it's not some debris in one of the many storage cubbies bouncing about!
