Hi I'm looking for some advice please. My 2004 yaris has started to have wet carpet in passenger footwell. I don't have air con and seems to be when washed or heavy rain could anyone advise where the water could be coming from please? Thanks

As frosty has said could be the sunroof drains blocked I have read in a magazine that someone with a mini had wet passenger footwell carpets and that was the sunroof ( different car I know). Sit in the passenger seat and get someone to squirt it over with a hose and have a look in the footwell and see if you can see where it is coming in.

Hi, all cars with or without air con and sunroof has a gutter system under the front windshield behind the wipers mechanism, there are drain holes there that with the time can get clogged and prevent water from rain , car wash drains down and this water then finds its way into the cabin. To clean that you will need to dismantle the plastic trims all around the windscreen, remove the Wiper Blades as well and thoroughly clean the whole well and particularly these holes or galleys. Another place that water can come inside the car is the front window seal or roof , then goes down through A pillar and seats at the bottom of the footwell. You will need to determine from where the water comes in first and possibly fix it. These two are first things to check or to tell your mechanic.
Good luck 👍

Clogged scuttle panel or dirt build up behind the fender liner.

Had the same with my 2005. I traced it to a leak between body panels. They had not been sealed in manufacture. I claimed a free repair under the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty: floor under carpet was getting rusty.

They had to remove dash and re-seal the panels.

Can’t really say about modern car, I had a mark 2 Escort with the same complaint and I removed the door card and the plastic sheeting behind it had come away resulting in water running down inside the door sill and soaking the front passenger footwell.

Where's the heater matrix? It might be that leaking.

In that case the coolant level would be low.

I'd put my house on the body panel leak - as i mentioned a few posts ago.
