How Long Will The Exhaust Last

I find it amazing how long exhausts on Toyotas last. My Avensis is 4 years old, and I'm glad to say the exhaust still seems sound. (Touch wood) It's done 46K.

How long would you expect to get out an Avensis exhaust?

Exhausts last ages on cars now days, my old Primera was still on the original at 86k.

You tend to find that higher mileage cars exhausts last better than really low mileage cars simply because on cars that only do 3000 a year the exhaust tends not to get properley hot to let the water steam off and end up rotting from the inside out.

Forever it seems,

My brother has a 1993 (11 year old) Toyota Carina E. On Monday this week his exhaust finally fell off. The car has done 176,000 miles and he has owned it from new. When he took it to have it replaced, he was told that it was only the Cat and mounts that had failed and that the front and rear sections were still OKish (certainly good for another year).

Good job anyway, because he had a quote from a Toyota Dealer for a genuine replacement at just over £800.00 !!!!

Just hope it lasts as long on my new 4 month old Avensis T3x.

Cheers

Andrew

Hey guys!

I think the backbox on my Corolla is starting to go and its only on 22k miles. I think alot of how long the exhaust lasts is to do with how the car is used. I was told if you do many many short trips, water builds up in the exhaust and rots it quicker. If the exhaust is constantly hot for long periods of time such as on a motorway drive, moisture does not build up as much, so high milage with one exhaust is poss. Only a theory!

  • 3 months later...

Just sold my -92 camry still running with its original exhaust except the cat (lasted 300 000 km then it was totally burned, almost empty in there!). When sold it had 335 000 km on the meter - thats quite impressive for an exhaust having in mind the salty roads in Norway.
