Toyota Yaris T-spirit 2011 diesel clutch replacement

Hi, the clutch went on my Yaris at the start of the week and the mobile mechanic has said its the slave cylinder head and the clutch needs replacing. Unfortunately he can only find the official Toyota part and is asking for £580 excluding labour, but added that i should shop around myself for a cheaper part.

I've had a look and with the number of models around that time its difficult to know exactly what part I am looking for. Would anyone here know what to look for and where?

Thanks.

I would assume, rightly or wrongly, the part he referring to as can only get the Toyota official part is the slave splinter. The clutch parts I would have thought could be obtained other than Toyota.

Parts shortages are all over the place, and anecdotally, it seems to be getting worse as various stocks get used up.

Try having a look on AUTODOC, they're usually pretty good, and they source the parts far more cheaply than a lot of places.

They seem to list Aisin or LUK clutches for about 200 quid with 100 quid for an Aisin slave cylinder.

The downside is delivery times can take a few days, and their aftersales support isn't always fantastic.

Great thanks for the advice! I had a look and found these two:

For the clutch kit:

And the slave cyinder:

Are there other parts required? As some of the kits seem have different things included.

You may also need a flywheel if it's the dual mass type, be aware there are 2 types of clutch for this engine

Can you PM me your vin and i can look up the correct one for your car

ps. a clutch kit comes with clutch, pressure plate and slave (unless stated)

Assuming this is a 6 Speed manual transmission & not a Multimode ( Auto ) I Think your mechanic is taking the mick a 3 part ( Plate, cover & Concentric slave cylinder ) for your Yaris, part number 31001-YZZ02 is £250.90 + vat from Toyota and this is a retail price he would be getting a Trade discount.

Should you need the Flywheel:

Flywheel 13405-33030 £297.11 + vat

6 x Bolt 900913-01024 £3.59 ea + vat

3 x Pin 90250-08120 £1.90 ea + vat

Isn't it common practice to replace a DMF when doing the clutch and vice-versa? I've seen quite a few reports of DMFs failing before the clutch has worn out, so might be something worth considering, depending on the labour charges associated with removing the gearbox a second time?

It was on early DMF-equipped cars because, as you say, they often wore out as fast if not faster than the clutch disc due to stupid design (I still don't understand how nobody picked up on such glaring design flaws!). Later ones supposedly don't wear out as fast, and the Yaris Mk2.5's 1.4D4D is likely much gentler on it than the 2.0 and 2.2 D4Ds, which tended to mulch them if driven in start-stop traffic regularly, so maybe isn't as necessary?

If I had one I'd probably change it with the clutch, but it's a hard choice as the DMF, despite being what I consider a wearing part, is nearly 3x more expensive than a normal flywheel, which isn't considered a wearing part!

But that and DPFs are things I'd never go near given a choice, being the 2 biggest contributors to the downfall of diesel reliability, so don't have any first-hand experience.

@DevonAygo - Are you sure that's right for the CSC-type release bearing? When I was trying to sort out the gearbox in my Mk2 (Which was admittedly the 1.33 VVTi), my dealer only sold a 2-piece kit (Pressure plate and clutch disc), and the slave cylinder-cum-release bearing was separate. I asked for the price of that, and it was more than clutch kit! Nearly the cost of the clutch kit and a flywheel! (Something like £260-290 IIRC; Flywheel was 134 and kit was 175 or something like that.)

Even third-party clutch kits for that engine were all only 2 piece as they didn't come with a release bearing due to it being part of the very expensive CSC.

I can't imagine the diesel one would be cheaper than the petrol one (Apart from the DMF anyway)! If that it is right then they must have come down in price a LOT in the past few years, or the dealer was trying to screw me again...!

I ended up getting the kit from my dealer and bought the CSC from Fensport as they wanted 97 for it which was much more palatable!

Just looked up the clutch for the op its the later 220mm clutch - zero stock of the full kit (£220-280) but found the 2 piece kit - clutches seem to be in high demand and little to no stock

the oem is supplied as 3 parts with their own numbers
