Hello,

I am looking to purchase a 2015 Toyota Auris Hybrid hatchback with 1.8 (136Hp) and 225,000 km / 140,000 miles. I will be bringing it to Toyota for a full inspection tomorrow and decide after.

The asking price is about $11,500. Is it a good value for this car?

I am worried about the high mileage and the life expectancy of the Battery. A new Battery would cost another $3500 at least.

I would love to hear from you on your opinion and experience with this model, the engine, the overall reliability, and the Battery life expectancy. When buying a used Toyota Auris Hybrid, what else should I be looking out for?

Bets.

E.

Hi,

Auris hybrid is a good car indeed. The price I know nothing about if it’s a good one or not as recently the used car prices are so high and out of touch. , if it’s within your budget then it’s ok. For the Battery best to ask Toyota to run a Battery health check which will show you if there any issues with it. All general test and checks as for all used cars and if the car passes then there is nothing to worry about it. Hybrid Battery has a cooling fun filter that needs checking and cleaning and at this miles egr may need cleaning too, it’s big job and can be costly, but nothing to put you off the car., it’s like a part of the maintenance. I have Auris hybrid 11 years old and has over 320000km , so far so good, almost all is original including hybrid battery and the small 12v battery. If the car been well looked after can give you more trouble free miles and years.
Good luck 🤞

Looks good, probably been a taxi. Here in UK these are famous within the trade. Catalytic converters are target by thieves, your country might as well been the case, therefore best to check that and install a catalytic converter plate to protect it and remove the hybrid badges, to mask the car to look like diesel one. See first if you gonna buy it and then welcome back, there are many posts already with useful information. 👍

I owned an Auris 1.8 hybrid 2016 model. I liked it alot. They are very good cars. Engine can get a bit revvy when pushed and going up hills but it has good power. Please check that your Auris has been regularly serviced and has the paperwork to prove it. As already mentioned if it's been looked after it will go on for many more years yet. Good luck.

@TonyHSD you are the second person who told me this car was probably a taxi by looking at the picture. How can you tell?

Thanks,

E.

It is high mileage, and white. An estate has bigger load area then hatchback, more luggage capable of taking people and cases to airport etc.

Very popular as taxi in UK and Europe, here taxis except black cabs in London are mostly white and estates. Could also been a company car  like only one person driving it but often and a lot, everything possible but because the make and model and the colour first thing that comes to mind when you look at: it’s a taxi. 🚕🙂 Don’t worry about it, my car is also white and although not an estate I have often people trying to get in and called me Uber . 😂

In the past I have bought privately two ex taxis. A Peugeot diesel estate with over 300,000 miles and Toyota Prius hybrid with 105,000 miles. Both had full dealer stamps for servicing and service/parts bought records. Two good cars.
You just need to be careful when buying high milers, you need to know their background is true.

Has the car been imported and from where or been first sold and registered in Bulgaria? If is a Bulgarian car from the beginning you maybe able to trace its service history via Toyota BG website and see any accident repairs, any breakdowns or just if all services were completed and match the service history book. Exterior of the car on the pictures look very good., double check how does it look inside.

The inspection went very well.

The car was imported from Italy. It had all the service history until May 2019, when it was sold in Bulgaria to a mechanic. They said it was brought to Toyota for service regularly. The km checked out too based on the last recorded inspection from Toyota.

There have not been any errors for the last 58,000 km. The last time the errors were cleared out was 58,000 km ago. The engine was checked for overheating and passed. Also, the Battery passed an inspection and received one year, 15,000 km warranty.

The only recommendation was to change the brake pads in the next few months.

The Battery that passed the inspection would be the big hybrid Battery under the rear seat. So you have a 12 month/15000 km warranty on it. In the uk that test would be free if you have the vehicle serviced by a Toyota dealer, maybe the same where you are. There is a limit to the extension in the uk, 15year/150,000 miles (which ever comes first).miles. Maybe the same where you live. However, you could still have it tested for peace of mind. In uk that is currently around £45. The hybrid Battery consists of individual cells, if one goes down it can be replaced. Last time I checked I am sure an complete me battery in the uk was around £1500 plus vat. (Prices have fallen)
