Roof leak

Hey all so this lovely rain has highlighted the fact my new car has a leak which the most helpful garage I got it from didn't tell me!

Anyway, just wandering if there are any common places roofs leak on the Auris. Mine is a 2008 1.6 and does not have a sun roof. My best guess is possibly water coming in at the areial as the plastic surround at the base of it is split.

Well it would be the first place to look.

There is normally a thin rubber gasket sandwiched between the aerial base & the roof.

I always add some clear silicone sealant around the holes in the roof when I refit a roof aerial on a car as belt & braces against water ingress in the future.

Where is the leak and where exactly the water buildup, rear footwell, boot, or front passenger footwell?

Leak is in the roof area. We have a drive that is on a slip so water is collecting just above the drivers head and around the handle above the door if that makes sense. If we park on a level area the water tends to soak in to the middle of the head lining. Hence my though that it was getting in through the areial

Ok, we had a very similar experience with one of ours and was from the windscreen seal. The windscreen was removed, new sealant applied and the water leak was fixed. Also the driver sun visor was damaged from the water and that was cha bed too.

Thanks I did wonder if it was the windscreen but I guess our can being parked on a slant with the windscreen at the lower point seemed to point to maybe something further back. Guess it's just a process of elimination really. Thanks all.

Other places to look are the body work panels where welded together and has some sort of sealant, sometimes micro cracks happens and water finds its way inside the panels and then the gravity does the rest. You will need to clean very well all gutters and door shuts on the rear hatch and check those specific areas. Some examples below:

Once they are clean you can try water bottle test , poor water at one place at a time when weather is dry and watch to see for water ingress. Good luck.
Btw these cars also suffer from water entering into the boot area( spare tyre well) via rear lights clusters seals , remove, clean thoroughly the body work and the clusters themselves and replace gaskets , seals or use some sort of silicone. 👍
