Hello everyone , I’m in need of some help with a Corolla I’m looking at. Not your ordinary Corolla it is the 2005 xrs. so I ask the guy some questions and apparently the previous owner put 225 k miles , and apparently there high way miles . Okay so here is where I get a little iffy about the car so he got it at 225 k miles , 5 k miles later he wants to sell it. I need help on this engine is it really worth that much when it’s got 227 k miles?

Moved to the Corolla club.

What you haven't actually said is how much the car is ??

Bear in mind that Toyota Owners Club is UK based, so members won't be au fait with car values in the US.

Wow didn’t know that ! Well hopefully it doesn’t matter much but this kid says he wants to get rid of it for 6500, car looks mint, but miles say other wise. So I just wanna know if I’m l looking at a lemon. Ima paste what he said word for word here . "it runs great it was kept in great condition. the previous owner traveled for work and would only use that car for long drives so the majority of the miles  are highway. besides that when he was in town he drove a different carit runs great it was kept in great condition. the previous owner traveled for work and would only use that car for long drives so the majority of the miles  are highway. besides that when he was in town he drove a different car”

so why would this kid get the car and only put like 2 k miles on it. Also the xrx has a 2zz-ge non supercharged.

They want 4871 pound sterling for it

We can convert the currency. What he meant was that the used car market is very different in Europe. The car would not be worth half that amount over here due to its age and mileage.

But you're right to suspect issues if the owner is looking to move it on after a short period. I wouldn't consider buying it without getting a professional mechanic to look it over first.

That’s a lot of money for an older car especially with so many miles on it. A lot of money no matter what country it’s in. Get it checked out by someone who knows what to look for.

Those tend to use an enormous amount of engine oil - something like 1L per 600miles. Had one of those few years ago. It was 2002 year 1.6 petrol engine. As soon as I realised how much oil it was using (around 2k miles of ownership) I got rid of it.

The car looks really good condition for age and mileage, if there is no rust underneath and on major components you can haggle the price and save some money just in case if any future repair on gearbox or engine and you will have a good car for more years to come. It’s all up to you and your personal circumstances. Good luck 🤞

Still overpriced imo

though I’m not up to date on the current USA market, my knowledge is from a year or 2 ago
