8” or 9” - Is Bigger Better?

After seeing various mentions of the Touch 2 8” screen and the 9” Smart Connect system I’m wondering if I should change my order for a Premiere Edition Cross. When I specced the car with the sales guy I originally said I’d have the advanced safety pack at £650 which comes with the 9” Smart Connect system. But then I said to the guy that for an extra £100 you seem to get a lot more with the City & advanced safety pack. He agreed and without explaining that you get a smaller screen, or the potential up and downsides of each system, said it was probably worth it so I said yes to the £750 option instead.

So people, what are the key differences between the 2 systems and should I go back and change to the 9” or stick with what I’ve chosen? If I do want to change, as the car is not in build yet, can I make the alteration? Just for clarity, I’m not bothered about 1” size difference, although I appreciate some may be. It’s all about performance for me.

thanks

I made that mistake too.  The City Pack is incompatible with the Smart Connect so you have to have the Touch 2.

Don't worry about 8 or 9 inch.  The Smart Connect is generations on in terms of capability.  The computer is faster, the navigation display is much improved and its detail is much different.

I saw the Smart Connect shows Specs Cameras and displays average speed in the Zone.  I think it might display reported Mobil cameras too.

Where the present system displays Speed limit signs on the main screen and compares your speed off the speedometer, Smart Connect also displays the speed limits but I think it also shows your Satnav calculated speed.

I was also told that map updates were automatically downloaded whereas you need to do it yourself.

Then Touch 2 has physical buttons on both sides, Smart Connect relies more on soft buttons.

As I said, I value the better displays over steerable reversing bars and an all round view, but I have not seen a live view of the City Pack.
