I just plugged mine in on the YC.  It charges and the connection to CarPlay is more reliable.  Additional cost - zero.

I want to pop out the cigarette lighter socket to check the connections behind it.

How is this done, is it clips or twist and turn and pull etc ? (I don't want to snap anything 😭)

Has anyone tried either of these tools to remove the cigarette lighter Charger housing ?

I received this wireless charging pad from China.  It does fit in the centre consul where the cigarette lighter is located.

I'm just not sure about the wiring, it states plug and play !!  I'm assuming it plugs into the cigarette wire.

Any tips on fitting 🥺

I have been using ACP since 2018 .

My 2023 CarLink Dongle connectivity is fast & my Lighter Charging kit is all black in colour & lays under the Dongle which is mounted out of sight in a black tray not silver as you have shown.

Can you tell me whether this device connect to phone via bluetooth and can also phone bluetooth connect to car at the same time, or does it need to tether an internet connect via phone.

Does it also connect to the car's bluetooth at the same time?

I just offered the Dongle to the Nav & it Auto Connects with bluetooth.

The old Dongle took a good minute to connect but the later version are much faster.

Connect your phone followed by the Dongle.

If you get your fingers down behind the little panel that has the accessory plug in it (from underneath), you’ll find it just pulls out.  The socket comes with it and you can see what you’re dealing with.   It looks like a patch lead which piggy backs as you say.

It looks quite nicely made 👍

Just wondering.  I have a AAwirelss Dongle plugged into the usb socket in the dash and it works great.  If I plug in a double socket into this outlet, one usb for the AAwireless and the other being a type C socket to charge my phone, would this confuse the car ?

Here is my solution to the missing wireless charger.

  • ESR HaloLock Wireless MagSafe Charger
  • Syncwire USB-C Car Charger 30W PD (Flush Fit)
  • USB-C Cable 15cm
  • Double Sided Sticky Pad (Removable Non-Mark Reusable)

I chose the ESR charger, rather than the official Apple one, because it is available in black and has a removable cable. The sticky pad holds the charger in place, which then holds the phone magnetically. About £50 all in.

Its ok, I've found it........Can you send me a link to that Halolock, I can only find ones online with long built in cable attached.

The pad you found looks interesting, is it magnetic?

Would have been much simpler if they used a 12V accessory plug though, rather than requiring that you to drill holes.

Thanks, I've got it in my Amazon shopping basket along with a mag safe case for my Pixel 8 (possibly the Mous Case).  Just need to find suitable strong double sided tape, as it will bug the hell out of me if when I detach my phone, the whole lot comes away 😭

The slot in pad thing I got from AliExpress is very good quality and does fit in pretty well, but I don't want to go drilling holes in my car yet.  When I do fit it, my plan is to pop out the cigarette housing and just file out a notch around the hole enough to just have the wire going in, that way, it will be hardly noticeable.

Cheers

The exact pads I used are not in stock. But I am sure similar can be found from other sellers. Mine has been rock solid for 2-years.

The wire should go under the console completely out of sight shouldn’t it?

The way it fits in the consul area, it actually hides the cigarette lighter completely, but I can still plug things into the front, but the wire that came with it needs to plug into the rear of the cigarette lighter. So a cut or hole of some kind is required.

Anyway, I'm not fitting it for now.

I've seen variations on this for other car models and they incorporate the 12v connector into the design so it is just plug and play. They will often have a passthrough 12V connector and/or additional USB too.

I would be wary of making a permanent modification for something that might fail and may go out of production.

Show me a photo pls.   Mock it up in position.

Yes, that's an idea, but I'd have to work out the wiring.  Getting the cigarette plug "end" will be easy enough.  I guess I can always ask one of you guys for guidance 👍

I’ve purchased the Chinese version (as shown above), but there’s no installation guide with it.

Can anybody please share info / a link on how to remove the ORIGINAL tray (that’s forward of the gear shifter)? I can’t find anything, anywhere that shows or instructs disassembly.

Thanks in advance.

I still haven't installed the one I got from AliExpress.  I'm making do at the moment with a Mag Case and a Mag Puck charger.
