Gen 1 Auris 1.4 petrol DIY head gasket replacement

Hi,

I'm not sure if there is already a thread for this I could follow I couldn't find one.  I have a 2008 Toyota auris 1.4 petrol my clutch has recently gone and needs replacing but soon prior to that I found it was idling a bit rough the exhaust had a distinctly different kind of smell and I noticed a coolant drop far below the low marker.  There isn't any coolant in the oil that I can see but I have a suspicion that my head gasket is failing just not yet fully.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any helpful walkthroughs, manuals, or threads I could look to in order to try and do this myself I don't need to drive urgently and have done work on my car before just nothing like this.

Thank you in advance for any comments!

There's a very detailed manual available on Toyota-tech.eu website (Toyota owned).

However, it's paid access. Cheapest option was 3 euros for 1 hour, which is enough to find what you need, save/print, etc.

All the articles are interlinked, so it makes it rather easy to find out everything you need. For that money,  definitely worth it, on a job like yours.

Let me have a look at that and see if I can find what I need.

Thank you!
