2016 Yaris MOT adviseries

The AWD in the Cross models is a gimmick - They use electric motors rather than a transaxle, which is a good idea, but the motor is ridiculously weak, like 5HP! It doesn't actually have enough power to move the car on their own, only to provide very weak assistance at low speed.

I wanted one at first (The non-Cross JDM Yaris has AWD as an option!), but on further research discovered how weak the motor was. I don't see how that would really help move the car except in very specific circumstances... certainly wouldn't make it an off-roader!

Edit: Might not be totally accurate; There's some conflicting information with the Corolla Cross, as some sites say it uses the same rear electric as the Yaris, but others say it's the much more capable 40HP one used in the RAV4...

Yes the self - charging hybrid id an excellent concept as a transition to our all - electric future. Plug in hybrids are a nice concept too but there is concern that too much proliferation of plug ins can be problematic in the transition phase primarily because electric charging demand may outstrip electrical network capabilities before they are suitably increased and developed to cope with large scale full electrification.

The self charging hybrids are not a transition to bev it’s more like the evolution of the ice engine combined with electric motor, basically they are ice cars with the most advanced stop start technology and most efficient engines. The best combination and imo they are here to stay for some time. For the awd Toyota offers they are weak indeed and in many ways pointless. , add weight , complexity and the benefits are minimal plus they are not that much of a fun to drive on snowy roads as Subaru or similar. Plenty of videos on YouTube.

It was my understanding that the sale of all petrol and diesel only ice cars would be banned beyond 2030 with the sale of hybrids probably being banned by 2035.
