RAV4 Digital InternalMirror

I've seen a few videos of European cars with digital rear view mirrors available.  Does anyone know why these aren't an option in the UK?

They look pretty cool and can be reverted to standard mirrors.

Why is a lot of good kit not included or offered to the UK market. This has been aired a few times on the forum but the general opinion is it’s down to each market to decided with Toyota what does and does not get into the UK spec’s.

It is down to each importer (eg. Toyota Germany, Toyota GB, etc) to decide the specifications of the vehicles they sell in their market area. Presumably Toyota GB have decided not to offer digital rear view mirrors on vehicles they currently sell.

Do you think Toyota GB might be interested in finding out what their customers would like? A forum like this would be a good place to get lots of feedback without to much effort on their part.

It looks good and the fact that it can revert to a normal mirror is a big plus as even the reversing mirror can struggle on some mornings.

Don't forget that some of the UK car buying public see such tech as a nice piece of equipment with the potential to be expensive at some point down the road but that shouldn't stop it being offed as an option.

One would think so, but as far as I'm aware they rely on their own sites such as Toyota UK magazine (https://mag.toyota.co.uk/), etc. From memory they have only used TOC once, which I facilitated, where they wanted to carry out some research with owners.

Toyota - wearing blinkers is not a good look.

My son-in-law has had two Dacia - a Sandero and currently a Duster. Both have provided cheap and reliable motoring. He has now ordered another Duster (4 month wait) and noted the brochure listed Sat-Nav. However, it is not on the car now. The reason given - the 'Chip Shortage'. Really? Sounds like price gouging to me - less kit, same price.

I know Volvo have suffered from this recently but they had a lot more kit deleted.

William, it really is chip shortages, I really don't think that Dacia a company really beginning to establish themselves in the UK would drop what is considered by most buyers essential kit for a few £'s.

The motoring press is full of companies now working short hours, closing for periods or delaying products.

I feel your frustration for your son-in-law but honestly can not see this getting better any time soon.  I think if people have contracts with a car they may well be stuck with what they have for some time to come and the rest of us that own them will be happy enough to hang on to what we've got.

It is not just Volvo and Dacia, BMW, Ford and VW are doing the same. VW have suspended production of all ID3 save for the basic versions. Other manufacturers are simplyfying ranges to help. All due to chip shortage - and that is before we add the supply chain problems with Ukraine. Lots of auto components made in western Ukraine.

The Mini built in Oxford has the supply part problems from Ukraine also, it’s a mess right now.
