Don't think this has been covered before (and cannot see it in the instruction manual 😉)

I may have to remove a piece of trim at the rear of the car and have noticed it says 'airbag.'

Normally you would disconnect the Battery and wait an hour or so to de-activate the airbag system.

Which Battery powers the airbags on the Corolla 1.8 2020 hatchback, the small one or the main one? If it's the main one then surely the airbags would be perm live or is there some clever circuitry when the car is locked?

I may not have to remove this trim but now I'm intrigued.

Hi,

all electronics on the car except electric motors and air conditioning are powered by the small 12v Battery. You can disconnect and wait 20min before unplug any air bags or remove from mounting position.
Good luck

Thanks for that. It's only a piece of trim but as can be seen from the image, it says SBS Airbag on the top right. I cannot imagine that's all that's holding the airbag in place 🤞

I don't want a 💥 !!

I believe this is only a cover and the air bags are usually mounted on the metal body work. 👍

Thankyou 👍 I hope so and may not even have to remove it, just wanted to confirm / put my mind at ease!

There are curtain airbags mounted in the roof behind the headliner - those " airbag " markings on the nearby trims are just to highlight the vehicle is equipped with curtain airbags.

When removing these type of trims be careful as some vehicles use flexible safety straps to help secure the back of the trim to the vehicle in case of airbag deployment.

Thanks for the warning. Hopefully will be ok, I found this image of the reverse of the trim.
