Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a second remote for an Aygo providing you still have the remote suppled with the vehicle.

Our Aygo came with one remote and a standard key which is correct according to the hand book but a second remote would be useful.

You definitely can - Your Toyota dealer would be happy to provide and code one, but they ain't cheap!

You can have up to 4 keys the cheapest way is to get a used fob and have it programmed/ program with techstream and get a blank cut at a proper locksmith (not Timpsons)

Thank you for all the answers, I will have to start saving up.  It has it first service in July so maybe I will arrange for it to be done at the same time.

If having it done at your dealer, order it at least 10-14 days in advance of your booking, before Brexit we could get a key delivered from Belgium next day, since Brexit, it has to go through the Belgium warehouse, then customs and delivered by Pony to the dealer, that takes 10-14 days

Thanks for the warning.  I take it Just in Time is dead since Brexit

Not just Brexit, although it's the main reason, but Covid in Europe, driver issues, customs all add to the timescale

My 2020 Aygo came with 2 remotes - maybe because I have keyless entry?

I remember when Toyotas used to come with 3 keys! 2 black remote/master keys and a grey valet key. And yet when I was Yaris Mk1 hunting, 80% of them would only have one key, or even a third-party key! (One I looked at wasn't advertised with central locking, and it turned out the dealer genuinely didn't know the car had central locking because the supplied key was some cheap third-party chipped key  )

I always make sure a car comes with 2 keys now as so many people seem to loose the 2nd key and dealers will just sell it like that if you don't question it - Even my infamous local Toyota dealer tried to stiff my dad on that when he got the Verso by only supplying 1 key; Glad I spotted that and made sure they gave a second one as part of the deal!!

Ah yes, the old Toyota remote that was built into the head of the physical key. I remember it from my wife's Mk1.

Sounds like your dealer was too young to remember the days when central locking was considered a notable feature even without remote control. 🙂

To be fair that wasn't a main dealer, just some random third-party dealer so I wasn't surprised they didn't know anything about the car

I get the impression it was a part-ex as they mainly specialised in german cars (Lots of VWs and BMWs and such)

Thanks for all the help everyone, can I be a pain and asked another related question.  Am I right in assuming the present remote key is needed to clone the second key, or, put another way, if I lose the remote key that came with the car am I looking at an ECU change to have another remote programmed?

Correct!

You have 2 keys, each has it own ID if you lose both you're stuffed, if you add another key it will have its own ID, if you get a 3rd party key it is cloned from the original

If you have one of the original key you can program/add another key no issue - there are other methods to get around the loss of all keys

The days of master/slave keys are long gone

the remote side of the fob can be programmed by the user/owner

I believe that is the case, although flash22 seems to infer in another thread that there is away to do it with TechStream without any keys present, unless I misunderstood!

There are other methods and hardware - not the sort of things that you post on an open public forum

I have a chap who can sort out just about any lost key situation, but he can't help me with lost keys on an Aygo

I did look at some videos on line that shows new key fobs being programmed by putting car effectively in programming mode.  I am tech savvy enough to build my own computers but some of this is in the realm of PFM (Prue Flipping Magic) for me.  There are also devices around that profess to be able to program keys but at a price only a very busy locksmith could justify.

Both my wife and I use the car so one remote can be restrictive and our last few cars have had two.  With the Honda CRV the drivers seat used to adjust to a preset position depending on which remote fob was used to open the vehicle.   With the Aygo we are back to often having to adjust the drivers seat and the rear view mirror before we can start to drive.  Not a major issue certainly something we had got used to not doing in the last six to seven years.

I tend to be a belt and braces sort of person as I have often found if it can go wrong it generally does so having the two fobs is worth it to me not only for the flexibility of having two but also the peace of mind of not worrying that much if I lose one.

Hah, reminds me of when I tried to program a new key for my Yaris Mk1 - Lots of press brake 5 times press accelerator 5 times, open door lose door in out in out shake it all about etc.

Well that process was a little more complex than expected but understandable really, I had emailed the dealership but received no response.  On calling them I can see that this process sort of falls between the parts department, who have to order the key, and the service department who need to program it.  The young lady in the servicing department was not only helpful but knowledgeable as well, advising me on the cost to program (which she appeared to know off the top of her head) and also informing me I would need to visit the dealership with the V5 before I could order the key.  I hate complications but this seemed a very good move on the part of Toyota.

So, one key ordered which cost £49.86 and then a programming fee of £59.60 giving a grand total of £109.46, as I was expecting £160 so I am quite a happy little chappy.  Should take around two weeks to arrive but I am not in any hurry now I have started to process.

Its basically used as a security procedure.

Its to stop people walking in of the street with a VIN & ordering a key cut to a vehicle they don't own.

Peugeot dealerships ask for V5C & photo ID plus take copies of them to keep on file before supplying any security codes / keys or locks.

That's all good to know, I might do that myself as I'd really like a second remote fob. 👍
