Gen 2 2009 Prius, no spare tyre, whats everyone doing?

Just wondering what other car owners are doing? I don't want to buy a spare and leave it in the normal boot, it will take up too much space, look horrible and there does not seem to be any space under the boot to store. I do have breakdown cover but still want to be prepared as best I can.

I'm sure that every Prius I've had has been equipped with a space saver wheel. That includes my original Gen2 T-spirit (2008 08 reg). 

Only the plug-in doesn't have it as an option, because the space is taken up by the bigger Battery.

There should be a false floor in the boot, with space underneath for the spare wheel

I had a 2010 Prius TSpirit.  The spare wheel was omitted to save weight - as the car was heavier because of the sun-roof.  The space and the holding bracket was there - under the false floor in the boot - but a tyre inflating foam device was supplied instead.  I bought a spare wheel / tyre and installed it.

All the Prius cars I have owned have had space saver spare wheels.

My son did own a 2010 Prius gen 3 with sun roof. I think he had a space saver under the false floor. I will find out if the space saver was fitted when he purchased it.

Checked with my son and his 2010 Prius had a space saver spare but the car never had a sun roof.  Do not know why a space saver cannot be used with a Prius with a sun roof. Perhaps the weight issue could be ignored?

Well it can be - They just don't supply one from factory as the extra weight takes the car over the target homologation CO2.

However there's nothing they can do to stop you getting one after you take possession of it, and they shouldn't care as the car's already been registered by then so any changing in CO2 output is irrelevant.

You can buy it from a Toyota dealer directly, but there are also companies who sell third party-made kits (space-saver, scissor jack and tools) which tend to be a fair bit cheaper then getting OE parts

Check that it can be fitted in the boot beforehand, otherwise you might be embarrassed.
